I came home one day with road rage parked in front of my apartment and across the street was an old couple trying to find out the parking situation. All I did was tell them not to worry the meter guy is done you don’t have to pay the meter . Big whoop but my rage was gone and totally replaced with a great feeling. Change my life✌🏼

JRE episodes commonly mention how messed up comedians tend to be. If Duncan Trussel fits in with this trope at all, he is clearly channeling the power of suffering and transmuting it to something higher.

@@erynblanchard3021 Thanks for the suggestion. I might have heard of DTFH but never sought it out. I’ve listened to a few episodes now, and it is quite the adventure. Duncan is so imaginative; it’s been awesome hearing him on his own podcast where there is less pressure to conform to the other person’s expectations of the conversation.

Right to a point, accept the best form of generosity is being selfish. To be selfish is to do things without the consideration of others. This balanced with compassion is what allows us to be able to give, for we can not give what we do not have. So they say lead by example, acts of self love are all selfish, things of health all selfish, things of knowledge all selfish, energy work starts selfish but allows you to offer it to others just the same as the rest of the things you do for your self. Selfish is not intended to be a negative word, it's only bad on its own with a lack of compassion, empathy and love. However you cannot love another until you love yourself. Keep vibrating y'all, take care of yourselves, much love 💕.

This is terrible. I do my best to help everyone always. I am also constantly lacking everything I need. I don't understand why me trying to also take care of myself is a bad thing???? I can't help anyone if I am constantly lacking???

You're not alone in that thought. I think he's referring to a different aspect of this. Like if you only focus on your career and don't care about anything or anyone else, then that's selfish. If you need balance to be a better person for others, I don't think he would say that's selfish. I think.

I feel I’ve been a selfish piece of shit lately, thinking that I’m high up or something. Have a homeless guy some coins though. Just be kind. Have felt so shit and anxious the last while. Guess I gotta stop focusing so much myself and help out others. Thanks to everyone who’s helped me during this tough time. I’m sorry I’m a pussy haha. Stop.

That would be cool, if it weren’t obvious that oftentimes kind & generous people suffer horrendously through no fault of their own & oftentimes terrible, violent, & selfish people live without suffering any consequences a day in their life. I do not buy that all these kind & loving grandmothers who wouldn’t harm a fly, yet end up suffering some terrible painful illness and death . . .were just complete assholes in some previous lifetime, & deserved the suffering they go through
@Ebo117

It not a huge leap that the wonderful grandmother type gets horrifically ill through constantly giving themselves to others at the expense of never looking inward and doing things for their own benefit, never addressing a personal difficulty head on, basically excessive selflessness can be escapism or a crutch. Gabor Mate draws a really bold line between the two and it doesn't sound impossible when the monster we ignore, grows. There is healthy selfishness, and some people really need that to be allowed for their own wellbeing. I thought Buddhism encourages the middle way or balance, above solely merit.

@@Ebo117 To whatever extent that’s true Not everything that happens to someone, is something that they deserved, or even had any influence over before being impacted by it. Incredibly good things & incredibly terrible things both happen to people who do not deserve it. Cause & effect does mean that; a lot of good/bad actions result in good/bad results. But a lot of the time, the *cause* that results in either good or bad *effect* in a persons life, was completely unrelated to the person who was impacted by it.

@@Alulim-Eridu Agreed. Wouldn't dispute any of that. It's not quite the point I was making. You can't hope to escape or transform all negative feelings, particularly with traumatic roots, be that by drugs distraction busyness or acts of kindness, because they continue to live and grow under whichever rug we sweep them. Glad you mentioned cause and effect since causes in the mind have effects in the body. Aubrey's short recently about the placebo effect explained this nicely. Also obviously the body's causes affect the mind. The body's fight/flight response being activated for long enough can lead a mind to think it cannot go on living. At some point we can be selfish enough to just look at our stuff very directly and work with it. By allowing it in it's unpleasant uncomfortable shameful disgustingness, it's power over us diminishes.
