It's funny when you see behind the scenes of an epic movie, because it's never actually very epic when they are making the movie. It goes to show just how much vision the director has, and how skilled the ENTIRE CREW is to take something that looks so unremarkable and turn it into something so incredible. My mind is blown.

Seeing how much of the sets, props, landscape and lighting is real instead of done in post is such a fucking tonic.
@antonliakhovitch83068 ай бұрын
I mean there are still a LOT of vfx. Even a lot of stuff that IS real is only there for reference. What matters is that good vfx AREN'T done "in post" -- they're fully thought out from the very beginning and the filming is done in a way that accommodates them. This is why the vfx look so good in Dune.
@sbraypaynt8 ай бұрын
@@antonliakhovitch8306 oh don’t get me wrong I’m not some practical FX purist. Denis’ team beautifully blend practical with incredible VFX, they have such a sense for scale, realism and spectacle and I adore it, after seeing Part 2 I can honestly say in IMAX I’ve never seen any other kind of movie quite like it. What I meant in my comment was if you look at the sets of the Star Wars prequels and what the actors had to work with on nothing but a blue screen sound stage and some crash mats, it must’ve been horrendous. Denis gives me hope for well written and lovingly crafted blockbuster cinema that also lets the acting team get immersed not just the audience.
@KirillTheBeast7 ай бұрын
@@sbraypaynt that's... legit the correct take on the matter. A very important advantage of using mostly practical effects and physical sets is that they help the cast's immersion. Sure, there are actors who can launch themselves into orbit just delivering a monologue in a blank room; there's like two or three of them alive at any given moment. Good direction and good production planning makes it way easier to squeeze insane performances out of even mediocre actors. Compound that to the fact that the FX look amazing due to them not being used as a crutch "in post" but rather as a meticulously pre-planned ingredient to the production and you get... Well, we've all watched it, right? Like, the film looks incredible and the franchise is straight up the best Dune adaptation so far. Personally, the ONLY nitpick (and it is a pedantic nitpick) that I've basically forced myself to find in part 2 is that the fight coreographies were probably the weakest point when it comes to immersion. Do I care? Fuck no. Did I go watch these films for that? Fuck no-no. So... yeah, these films are as close to perfect as I've seen so far.
@sbraypaynt7 ай бұрын
@@KirillTheBeast I agree completely, almost close to perfection. Nitpick but Harkonnens go down in one stab and go limp when it takes 40 stab wound to stop a human being, my brother helped me rationalise that the Harkonnens are comically anemic and weak to deal with this movie mistake.
@KirillTheBeast7 ай бұрын
@@sbraypaynt Unfortunately, that afflicts virtually all movies. I'm unlucky enough to have witnessed several people being stabbed (some of them multiple times), and all of them made it after waithing several minutes for the ambulances to come to their aid. Same goes for bullet wounds; a character gets shot in the gut, goes "uugh...", crumples and dies within five seconds. It's just how visual media has decided to show lethal violence because a truly realistic portrayal would be VERY difficult to watch (death rattles are a thing and you don't want to hear one because you'll never forget it). I've personally don't mind it too much anymore, but it still feels jarring when there's a lore reason for someone to not die instantly from a wound, yet they go limp and stop breathing immediately.
