Let me clarify one thing for all english speaking people listening Denis. Some must wondering what is it he's saying when mumbling "Tsé" once in a while. in Quebec, "Tsé" is a contraction of "Tu sais" which means "you know". This is funny he's mixing this up when he's speaking in english as no one outside Quebec probably get that.

Denis doesn't need to express it vocaly. To me his love for the stories, the source material and the respect he shows towards previous adaptations/original movies just oozes from the screen. you can see his love for the material he was working with in Bladerunner 2049 and now in Dune directly on the screen. this would not have been possible without a deep love for the project he is tackeling. As somebody who was introduced to the Dune Universe through the David Lynch movie at the age of 13 and read the books afterwords my heart melted each time i recognized a little nod towards the 1984 version.

On the topic of Denis' fear that he may not be able to make a movie that pleases a teenager... my son (16) and I went to watch this movie with another dad and his daughter (13) - I know my son was mesmerized, totally got the underlying messaging, managed to understand and navigate the complex political drumbeat pushing the story forward, and were able to identify with the characters brought to life. My friend's daughter had freshly come of reading the book (kid still read, thank goodness) and was impressed with how he brought things she'd imagined to life... she was all smiles, and I could tell her mind was still flowing with what she'd just watched. As for my son, he said it was the best grown-up movie he's seen, and that the way it was brought together in story, picture and sound was pretty fantastic. His first question was "when is the next movie?" quickly followed by "there is going to be a next movie, right?" - so, yeah, it connected with my son, Denis. Fantastic job, period.

Bladerunner 2049 in IMAX was one of the greatest theater experiences Ive ever had. The opening alone was magnificent. The score kicked in and the bass rumbled in my chest. Then a giant eye opened before me and I felt like I was going to fall into the screen. It blew my mind. I've since watched that movie at home and its still wonderful, but nothing can compare to that initial sensation of vertigo and the excitement that followed from every visual and audio thrill. If you didnt see it in IMAX, you really didn't experience the movie. I suspect Dune will be much the same. Im Looking forward to this Friday. Its gonna be incredible.

Either they make it a fast, confusing, shallow action movie for people like you and disappoint the entire fanbase, or they do it right and take their time establishing the world, who the houses are, who the characters are, what their struggles are going to be.

He did this so well. The last time I felt this way in a theater was first Jurassic Park, then Lion King, then Fellowship of the Ring, Interstellar, now Dune. A masterpiece of filmmaking. I have read the first 3 books 2 times and before the movie came out listened to the first novel and Messiah on audiobook again. This was an experience.

My main point of contention is the lack of color. I acknowledge that I am spoiled by Jodorowsky's and Moebius' vision, and now reading the book I get how desolate the environment of arrakis is, but I still think the costume design to be very plain and average. I think it’s destiny that Denis V would end up making this movie. Not only because he’s a legit fan of the book since childhood, but because so is my dad. Congratulations on one of the best interviews I have seen. I hate it when interviewers ask questions that are two minutes long (showing off their knowledge of the subject), but you have a knack for asking short questions that drew out Denis (an extreme introvert). Well done. Regarding what Denis said, it was wonderful to hear him talk about no longer caring about awards, focusing on women, focusing on the relationship between Paul and his mother. Great stuff. Only issue: the sound levels were off. Once set up, no one checked the sound levels of the mic when soft-spoken Denis talked vs when the significantly louder interviewer said something.

It is rare in this modern age that the more you learn about a person the more respect you have for them. With Denis Villeneuve, however, this does seem to be the case. He genuinely seems sincere about his art, as opposed to accolades and awards, which suggests a high degree of meditation. Those artists who perform for recognitions, who, as it were, are continually looking over their shoulder to see who's watching, are dabblers. By contrast, Denis seems very deep, indeed.

Can we just take a second to appreciate the fantastic interviewing from Tom Power in this? Doing a 30+ minute interview with a director like this is incredibly challenging. Getting so much insight and interplay and also being able to react to what your interview subject actually says to be able to think in the moment and find the best way to follow those threads as they're uncovered is hugely difficult, and Tom Power did an amazing job of it here. I have a new appreciation for Dune and all of Villeneuve's work because of this interview and, even as someone who isn't a filmmaker, I found it incredibly inspiring for all of my own creative work in music, photography, and just in life as a whole. Knowing that Villeneuve has been dreaming of making this movie for longer than I've been alive and how he has now finally been able to realise that dream is just beautiful to me. Thank you so much to CBC for doing this and also for giving us a full cut of the interview to let it breathe and grow instead of just condensing it down to a couple of minutes of soundbites. I've seen Dune once already but I definitely feel I need to see it again in IMAX now because of how Villeneuve talked about the experience he envisaged for this movie while was making it, and I cannot wait for part two now that it's (finally!) been officially greenlit! Before watching the movie I have read the book again and i was wondering in what way this could be adapted visually. To me, I thought that there are two perfectly adequate ways to go. One is a 8-10 one hour episode to rellay get into the worldbuilding and politics and all the intricacies of the story Game of Thrones style. The other is a 2-3 part movie that focuses on the epicness and spirituality of the movie. Something that couldn't have came across on a small screen. Obviously lots of things have been omitted from the movie, but Denis have made the best choices about what to focus on, and how to tell this story in a meaningful and efficient way. The first half an hour we spend on Caladan, is a masterclass in worldbuilding, and lays a rock solid foundation of the whole story.

The adaptation was excellent. There were things left out of the story, but the only thing that was actually changed was the final scene for the Liet Kynes character, and I would say that change was a good idea from a cinematic point of view. I can't think of any other plot points that were actually changed. I suppose you could include the location of Paul's fight with Jamis, since in the book it occurred after they arrive at Seitch Tabr, but that barely qualifies as a change, and it means that they can move the whole Seitch Tabr production design as well as the full impact of Fremen culture and Bene Gesserit influence on it, to the second movie.

The fight with Jamis actually took place at the Cave of Ridges in the book. The only "change" was perhaps the decision for it to take place outside. I do agree with the change to Liet Kynes' ending after thinking about it. It does the same job as Liet's capture and "execution" in a few poetic moments.

the man is a genious, years back, when dune movie was being discussed, with very mediocre directors in mind I was frustrated, as they were going to be very low budged and worse execution. Fortunately the master of Blade Runner 2049 was able to craft another master piece, I can't wait to get a director's copy of Dune. I would like it to be watching 6 hours of this so loved and fascinating universe.

Just saw it in IMAX. Very nice. Not quite LOTR quality, but a very very good film. Part 2 should be even better.

One of the greatest books ever written, certainly in sci fi as well. Bravo Denis! A work of art and personally as a big fan of his films: the best by far. Go see this in the theater and support him in making more films like this for cinema

This adaptation was flawless, & Denis is a true master. I hope people see this in the theater to experience the absolutely massive scale of this movie. I’d watch him do the entire 6 novel run.

It was so funny for me, that I didnt expect anything at all. I never touched Dune in my life both books, movies, even games? nothing. I was aware of the title but never knew anything about this. But the trailer which I discovered 2 weeks before the world premiere at James Bonds No Time to Die, I decied to go just like that "Lets see what this is coz the trailer is awesome" And then the magic happened. Im always hyped of my loved movies like star wars, 007s, every Marvels etc. so Imagine my hype when I see STAR WARS opening sequence, huge out of the world emotional and visual massacre of Avengers End Game, I love "my" movies, but the feeling of being TRULY AMAZED to the bones, like I was like shocked of what I saw and felt after Dune... this wasnt describable for me. Something mystical inside my mind grown that night when I came out of the cinema. And what is so funny I mentioned at the beginning of this comment? Funny was, that I mentioned right after we saw Dune with my family exatly the same as here above but also I said that ONLY ONE movie made me feel that kind of amazed and touched to the heart. And it was Blade Runner 2049, and believe or not, I f*ckin didnt know till very TODAY that it was the same mans work which is Denis Villeneuve o.O Now it makes perfect sens why I felt like that for the 2nd time of my lifer after seeing a movie. Good Job sir. I cannot wait for part 2 and maybe a 3rd one which is planned by him.

Here's a concern I have about streaming media and theaters. When I was young, not so terribly long ago, you could go to a name artist concert for anywhere from $15 to $30. Now, you must spend several times that to sit in the nose bleed section, watching a big screen behind the artist while the artist themself is but an inch or two tall across the vast landscape of an arena. Concerts have become an exclusive event for the well-heeled elite. Most of us will never get to go. With home theater systems becoming more affordable and cinema house revenues steadily shrinking, it's a forgone conclusion that the smaller screens of the multiplex will merge into larger screens and the cost will skyrocket to the point where the true cinema experience will become lost to all but the affluent. As a once consistent theater goer, it breaks my heart to think of it. But, at the very least, the cost of concessions at the home theater will be far less insulting.
