Being deaf is actually an incredibly strong ability in this universe. It kind of showed that without being too direct. She signs to Paul that one is deaf, hinting he cannot be forced by The Voice and they'd have to bait the other one and use him to kill the deaf Harkonnen. Super cool details.

But I thought it was more that they didn't have to worry about him hearing her use The Voice and knowing what she commanded the other to do so he could defend himself. I didn't really think about it in the way that you put it, that it's an actual advantage in a situation like this. That being deal is an advantage more than a disadvantage.

Pauls visions are all possible futures, that's why he says theyre "confusing" ..and btw, They're all called Ornithopters regardless of number of wings.. IIRC, in the books, the mechanism that flaps the wings is actually biological.. some kind of mollusk that always vibrates and the ship uses electical current to stop the vibrations when not flying.. then remove the current to start flapping again.. this is so in event of catastrophic electrical failure, the ships will still fly.. or something like that.. interesting eh?

I don't think that's quite it when it come's to the visions. Its not possible futures, its just Paul trying to interpenetrate what he is seeing. Jamis did teach him, but Paul took that literally, and saw Jamis as an actual tutor/teacher teaching him the ways of the desert.

@@bigwezzop is right, it’s actually possible futures. Since Paul doesn’t first know how to interpret the possible futures, and what they all mean, all together, he gets confused-- understandably so. The great houses are all royalty, so like European royalty, they are all distantly related. Which is also why Leto Atreides didn't marry Paul's mom, he had to keep marriage as an option open for alliance purposes with other Houses. It would be like a prince marrying a commoner.

Not exactly. Jessica was Bene Gesserit. In the Duniverse, Bene Gesserit have a special place. So even if a woman is born a commoner, becoming a Bene Gesserit elevates her above being a commoner. The Bene Gesserit are very selective about the women who join their ranks. It is fairly common knowledge that many Bene Gesserit are usually either nobles or exceptional commoners. What isn't known publicly is that all Bene Gesserit are on a breeding index. Typically, a woman needs to have an acceptable genetic code to become Bene Gesserit. I think there may be a few exceptions, such as a character in the later books named Sheeana who has qualities that are more important than breeding.

jessica was the Duke's concubine technically but the book describes how their love for each other was as deep as husband and wife. The duke never married her for political reasons and regretted it at the end. bene gesserit concubines were "assigned" to different houses without any choice in the matter (for breeding/bloodline manipulation purposes). it would have been a disadvantage for the Duke to marry his concubine thus closing any window for a union between him and one of the other houses by way of marriage. But the book fleshes out more how much Jessica and Leto deeply loved each other which always struck me; especially given how rare a real love like that seems in the high-stakes political world of dune. But even at the very start of the book, it's made clear that Leto (and house Atreides) was doomed and their love wouldn't last; so it was a tragic romance

@axebeard608525 күн бұрын
10:50 About the soldiers of the Imperium at this point in the film: In the Imperium, it is widely believed that the Sardaukar are the ultimate fighting force in the known universe. At one point, this was true. However, the Imperium had been letting the Sardaukar go soft. They could still easily wipe out the army of a single house, but there were some inherent weaknesses. For example, the Sardaukar did not have any kind of "Kobayashi Maru" training program with no-win scenarios. They were so used to always winning, they had difficulty dealing with a loss. Its difficult to compare the strength of the Fremen to that of the Sardaukar at this point. The Fremen were skilled guerilla fighters with unshakable religious fervor who would fight to the death. (The religious division was an invention of the film.) However, the Sardaukar were products of a training program that had a knowledge base spanning thousands of years. Next in strength would be the small force of Atreides that Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck had trained. They were almost as good as Sardaukar, and a few (like Duncan Idaho) were better than Sardaukar. Next would be the general armies of each house. Obviously, bigger houses with larger resources would usually have better troops, but this wasn't always the case. The Harkonnens were an immensely wealthy house, but their soldiers were conscripts. This is why you saw soldiers backing away from Duncan Idaho when he got into the ornithopter. However, that all changed when Paul joined the Fremen. Paul began a training program with the Fremen. He taught them the fighting skills and battle tactics he had learned from Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck. After 2 years of this training, the Fremen had reached the point where they were better than Sardaukar. There's a scene near the end of the book where the Emperor's Sardaukar had captured Paul's sister Alia, but the Sardaukar had barely escaped because they were nearly wiped out by Fremen women, children, and old men.

Me personally I prefer the book, it's much sadder, as he starts hallucinating his father giving him a seminar/lecture to him about the ecology of Dune to which he tells his long gone father to literally stop lecturing him lol. He's left for dead in the bare desert with no still-suit after being tortured by Harkonnens all night which is a horrible way to way to go. Then he collapses on top of a hot ground which would be like a frying pan at that point, declaring himself a "desert creature", the spice blow beneath him thankfully puts him out of his misery and he's killed by the very planet he tried to tame. Just In that short scene in the book we get an explanation of where the spice melange comes from, it's correlation to the worms, and how far back Kyne's lineage goes back with educating the Fremen on how they can terraform Arrakis, the unsung heroes of the story..... It's where science meets religion, the voice from the outer world will help achieve both Kyne's and the Fremen's spiritual goal of turning Arrakis into paradise...... it's also exactly why I didn't like part 2 because it deliberately cut all this stuff out which really maimed the story in my opinion.

When Paul sees Jamis in the future, this is from a possible branch in which he did not invoke the duel and so they become friends, and Jamis mentors Paul. So when they fight and Paul is forced to kill him, it shows him that the future isn't fixed, that it can be changed by his actions. At this point he realises how dangerous his visions can potentially be, and how careful he must be not to make further mistakes, like here where he is instead forced to sacrifice someone who could otherwise become a close friend and very useful ally.

I was actually disappointed with the fight scene at the beginning of the video because it simplified too much for me. The Sardaukar were dressed in Harkonnen battle dress. This is a feudal system. There are no computers because of an AI rebellion sometime in the distant past; calculations are done by extremely rare and highly trained individuals who are literally one-in-a-million.
