Since you enter a kind of trance between being commanded by the voice and actually performing the action, it makes me wonder if she was in that state all the way until Paul showed up? Is there anything in the book about a long-term commands in the voice?
@antt2228Ай бұрын
@@SHIFTsvideos I don't quite remember, but I don't think so. Every time it is a simple command, like "kneel" or something. It's also not really the same as in the movies. In the book, the voice or more psychologically manipulative rather than just a magic power. At one point, Lady Jessica attempts to keep Jamis and Paul from fighting by using the Voice, but it's described as follows: "You will answer to me then," Jessica said, and she pitched her voice in a twisting tone with a little whine in it and a catch at the end. Jamis stared at her, fright visible on his face. "I'll teach you agony," she said in the same tone...

I always liked how when Paul uses the voice you hear mostly his voice, as if the voice is a part of him rather than him tapping into the voice. Everyone else it sounds like a demonic entity speaking through the person, as if the person is not in control. But with Paul it mostly just sounds like him, like he is the one in control.

That subtle whisper by the Reverend Mother, "Abomination", when she is sent reeling back by Paul is such a cool moment. It shows so many things about the characters and their dynamic at once. First, audio. Paul's use of The Voice has his vocals stand above the rest, showing his sheer control over himself and the power he wields. Second, reaction. The Mother is pushed back by Paul's immense power when he commands her to be quiet. She whispers "Abomination" as she falters. Showing that she still does not get it, Paul is the Kwisatz Haderach, and she and the Sisterhood have lost. She sees Paul as an Abomination because he isn't apart of their plan to produce the Kwisatz Haderach even though the signs were there and she ignored and refused them. Because of this, Paul rejected the Sisterhood and vowed to forge his own path which lands him the throne along with an immense army of religious believers. The Mother refuses to believe she has lost and utterly rejects him

ahh Actually from what I have heard from book reader. Paul was really never intented to be lisan al giab. He was supposed to be female who would get married to feyd and thier children will became kwistasch herdrad (I don't know spelling).But jessica instead had boy because duke wanted son. Because she loved him. You could argue that the whole series happen because of jessica's one decision. This is honestly one of the best magic I’ve seen in a movie. Focused, powerful, show not tell
@mms100oАй бұрын
And the best is that it’s not magic. It’s an ability in the Dune universe. People get this through harsh training and the Bene Gesserit have control over the technique. It’s like modulating your vocal chords to reach a specific frequency that reaches one’s unconscious side and commands it to something, and each person has its own frequency.
@alpacaofthemountain8760Ай бұрын
@@mms100o Oh that's awesome.
@user-yp6yr9te7lАй бұрын
It's not magic. It's actually a learned technique that is like instant hypnosis. The Voice also isn't just a voice, it's modulating the tone, pitch and timbre of one's voice, but also specifically carefully choosing the right moments, audible distance, and what words to say, and body language, targeted at an individual you'd spent enough time around to have successfully psychoanalyzed so you know exactly what tone, words, and phrasing to use to speak to their subconscious, so that they involuntarily do what you said. It's not just authoritative, since different people require different tactics. For some people, they would be more receptive to a motherly commanding presence, for others, a more gentle, or seductive voice, etc. It's literally what people do everyday (like when my mother uses her MOM voice on me) already in real life to modulate their tone to manipulate people. It's just a very extreme version of that. Think, an incredibly successful salesperson, telling you to buy something, using just their speech, and you do it, even though you didn't really want the thing...or a politician, a manager, or a priest, getting people to obey them...but an EXTREME version, since the Bene Gesserit have had thousands of years of genetic manipulation, breeding, training, etc., to specialize in this one secret skill.

Is Reverend Mother Romallo a Bene Gesserit cz she's able to do the voice? All I know is Bene Gesserit already spread in Arrakis long time before dune happened.

You missed another voice that Paul used when he looked at his mother after he had been revived. Just notice that his mother's surroundings Went completely dark; God knows how much time has passed. Paul and his mother were still near the pool, and everyone left. This voice was intentionally cut from the scene, I believe, to show how Paul supersedes other bene gesserit like her mother.

Also, the abomination dialogue from the reverend mother certainly refers to Alia! Alia, though in the womb, possesses a high power like Paul and somehow manipulates the plot. As Paul used his voice against the Reverend Mother in the final scene, she surely understood what was going on. Just after the abomination is uttered, the camera moves toward Jessica-a simple yet powerful statement.

@@mdtaifurazam nope, you're overthinking. Abomination refers to a male able to use Voice, a Kwisatz Haderach not under control of Bene Gesserit. Camera moves toward Jessica who is triumphant over her whole order at this moment of revelation.

@@abhishekiyer1270 yes, it's true, but a male able to use Voice and accessing genetic memory is also an Abomination. And so this particular scene has nothing to do with Alia.
