Have now rewatched - it has such a big impact, really really would encourage people to watch part 1 back and then treat yourself to an explainer or two after. Means you can sit down ready to absorb the whole lot without missing a beat.

Really like the point Stilgar comes across comedically Gimli-esque. It lulls you to buy into his complex journey to firm believer in such a genuine way; that faith building process probably has a psychology term to describe it. Really good.

Great pod lads! I felt similar to Jack before seeing part two, I didn't really love part one, I felt it was quite dry (excuse the pun) and took itself very seriously (but to be honest that's how I found the book too). I didn't re-watch part one before seeing this, but interestingly my friend said he much preferred it on second watch in the build up to this one. I got offered a ticket last minute and went in without high expectations and thought the first hour and a half or so was absolutely incredible. If I had to nit-pick, I didn't love some of the casting, particularly Walken, just playing himself in space... and maybe more controversially it felt like they shoe-horned a lot of the 'it' actors in right now Butler, Pugh, Taylor-Joy (that's probably an unpopular opinion!) I do also think the pacing drifted after the scenes on the Harkonnen planet but I really hope part 3 gets made, Villeneuve deserves it.

This is a really interesting take - I did wonder whether perhaps this has something to do with actors wanting to be ‘involved’ one way or another regardless of the character just because of the nature of how big this film is going to be etc. Hollywoods version of fomo
