I finally had the time to get to see Denis Villeneuve's second instalment in his DUNE series and it had to be at the BFI IMAX where they had one of the twelve 15/70 IMAX prints exhibited throughout the world. The fact that there are 15/70 prints is significant as it confirms the impact that Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER had in 2023 which the film industry is now looking to take advantage of. I'm told DUNE PART TWO has been another big success for the BFI and with similar reports coming from genuine IMAX houses around the world it comes as no surprise that there are apparently new productions coming which will be including genuine IMAX sequences shot 15/65 fro 15/70 release.
This video documents my experience of seeing DUNE PART TWO at one of the greatest cinemas in the world today. It is also my review of the film where I also detail some of the technicalities and particularly why I think a blow-up from a 4K digital video master to standard 70mm and the ultimate 15/70 is worthwhile.
We also talk to Hardik who is currently studying in the UK from India. Hardik is another true film enthusiast and he's excited to be able to see these 15/70 prints at the BFI IMAX. His first experience was TENET a few months ago but he's also impressed with the results from the 15/70 blow-up of DUNE PART TWO.
Finally, we have a FILM IS FABULOUS event coming up at The Courtyard Cinema in Hereford which I detail towards the end of this video. I'll be on a panel discussion about the Film Is Fabulous project, how we are saving films and how it is that film collectors have often proved to be the saviours of so many films that otherwise would have been lost from the world forever.
