Absolutely terrible episode that removed my desire to continue watching the series (I haven't watched E4 yet). Lazy, uninteresting stories, and nothing about it feels like it's the Dune universe, except using the jargon and very broad features of Herbert's invention. Here we learn that the Atreides-Harkonnen feud has its roots in a tragic misunderstanding and that the Harkonnens are really misunderstood bullies, with legitimate grievances. Likewise, the Atreides aren't very noble at all, and are, in the "current" timeline, sneaky traitors to the Empire. Oh, how very *clever*! The voice is not something carefully crafted by the Bene Gesserit as a tool to exert their domination in select instances where their intervention is indispensable, but is some innate super power that Valya discovers she has by accident. And the Bene Gesserit? A bitchy Sisterhood with a power struggle over its future and the ethics of its ways. And the Butlerian Jihad, an uprising against the stagnation of humanity as AI does all of the "thinking," is turned into the "Machine Wars," a clone of the Terminator vision of the future. We could blame Brian Herbert for a lot of this, but there's also the very bland acting performances and dialogue in the translation to screen. Horrible.

I called this episode the worst of the season then episode 4 the best. Of course best is relative. Lol. Agree with the rest of what you've said though. I've heard grievance about the butlerian jihad but since I haven't read all of the books I don't feel qualified to comment on it
