I can't imagine a religion so stupid as to pick a man to be their leader who already had two times, was cut off to prosper in the sense Trump made hatred grow, denied the desire of women in that Hillary was denied, but they froze the vote in six states to give you an image of his time. He came into office with Nobel Peace Prize already in his hand and put a piece of paper (grain offering) into the wing of the temple (Wailing Wall) and even turned the key to a bottomless pit by WikiLeaks and an Arab Apology Tour that ended with him kissing the ring of the Saudi Prince ove the Ka'aba and during that Arab Spring three kings were removed in Egypt, Libya, and Tunesia in less than one month (29 days) and since this Arab Spring the second beast under a false prophet has been burning down churches in Europe in the thousands such that it can be said they give their power unto the image of a beast. Imagine picking someone to prostrate to that will literally rule for one hour with ten chosen important Arabs to also rule with him for one hour, but that's it. Palestine melts when Palestine is whole per Isaiah 14:28-31 because Barack Hussein Obama has already fulfilled all the Bible passages about him and so Muslims just want to rush to burn in hell with demons. Too dumb to know pick someone else and maybe you could avoid hell for seven years as that man might have to fulfill some things before they all go to hell.

To him alone are the prayers in truth." Quran 7:45-47 says, “Who shall avert people from the path of Allah? And who will be declared the maker of deception? They were focused on the Hereafter, disbelievers. Between them shall be a barrier a family of men of Obama, who shall recognize them all by their markings. And one (Barack Obama) shall call out to the companions of Paradise, “PEACE ON YOU.” They shall not have entered, but shall have the assurance. And his eyes shall turn towards the people to be torched for they cry out, “Lord let us not be cast into fire among the wicked” but the man Obama shall say, “I know you by your looks, but none of your riches or pride of life shall avail you now, for these men have sworn that you may never earn the mercy of Allah.” Then he shall turn to his own BARACK (the blessing) shall say, “Come with me to paradise, for you will have nothing to fear, neither regret.”” While they're talking to Barack Hussein Obama they are worried about the fact they're about to be torched. Except the Fremen aren't Muslims, the Madhi, is from the Sunni tradition of Islam, which would not have been credible if they adopt Shi'a Muslim beliefs who are the followers of who I understand to be Talib, the son in law of the Prophet Mohammed. The Fremen follow a religious belief that adopts elements of Zen Bhuddism and Sunni Islam, which has a larger following than the Sh'a. By the way I will assume that that guys know there have been more than one Madhi as their is a line of Sunni's who have claim the right to be the 'The One'. And it was the Bene Gesserit missionary Nuns, The sayadenas that put the idea of Paul being the Voice from the out world into the minds of the Fremen, keeping thier belief in the mystical idea of Paul alive. I am not a Muslim, just curious as to why you think the Fremen are Muslim when they have clear ditched that belief 10,000 years ago in the book

What I know is that Fremen in the desert are Muslims by inspiration for the author and Paul is the Mahdi or T.E. Lawrence of Arabia only end time prophetic leader. That is the inspiration no matter what you want to say about your thoughts. I am not sure what you mean about the multiple Mahdi. You must be referring to Imams, but when you say the 12th Imam you mean the Mahdi.

It’s not a matter of right or wrong. Dune has hints of Islamic influence but it isn’t some sci-fi reimagining of Islam, and it never tries to be. In 20,000 years if as much of the Old Earth, including Arabic words and Islamic cultural artifacts exist, as they do in Dune-That would be remarkable

The religion of the fremen is called zensunni. It isn't Islam. It isn't Buddhism. It's a bit of both. And a bit of something else. There are "other Muhammads" in their traditions, and they come to worship God as a living man-worm in the form of Leto II and man as God in Paul Areides. But largely, Islam is not thematically relevant, it's just flavor. The significance to the Arab culture has more to do with the imperial invaders. Not that Islam doesn't have a nasty history of colonization and imperialism itself. Which is also explored in Dune. The fremen are not necessarily the good guys.

Dune Fremen religion is a mix of every religion of desert-dwelling people. You get elements of Islam. But you also get psychedelic coming-of-age rituals and a shaman figure (common in Native American religions). Not wasting a drop of water of the dead is a real practice of some people-I forget who. The cliff-dwelling architecture is based off of Hindu temples. The Bene Gesseret are a syncretic blend of every religion. So it also includes elements of Christianity and Zen Buddhism.

@@Kwisatz-Chaderach you’re right I didn’t even think of that! You have John the Baptist and Jesus’s fast in the wilderness and the Desert Fathers. Arguably Paul’s exile into the desert is a reference to some of these. And the war waged in Paul’s name is a clear reference to the Crusades. I know in the books every religion combined their texts into the “Orange Catholic Bible.” But the Fremen were a very isolationist people, and so they also had unique cultural practices, which made them different from the religion in the rest of the galaxy. But I also think the Bene Gesseret are meant to represent Western religion while the Fremen are meant to represent non-Western religion.

I took the book as a metaphor for moving from a water coastal area to life in a desert! Naive and young I was so ready for my eyes to go blue! The eyes of Ibad! I wanted to fight the Harkonan and to join the Fremen! So disappointing to find out it was just an awesome book! But still a powerful influence on a young life! No regrets!!

Very interesting. But you need to keep in mind that the DUNE story takes place like 20 thousand years into the future. There is no Earth and no Islam as we know it anymore. Human race has evolved and changed, even if it still keeps using old words and traditions from the past, but the meaning may not be the same. I'm from Spain, and we have around 4 thousand words that are from Arabic origin, but have changed over the years (and we also have food or traditions with strong Arabic influence, even if we are supposed to be a strongly "catholic" country). DUNE uses very different cultural elements, no only from Islam. Talking about laughing, it was kind of funny to me to see the picture of Paul's grandfather, because he's fully dressed as a Spanish "torero" (bullfighter). I guess non-Spanish viewers didn't get the reference, even if we see a few times a small sculpture of a bull and a bullfighter, and also there's the bull's head, the kind of "trophy" the "toreros" get after killing a bull.

Agree in general, but the Fremen are Zensunni - a clear amalgam of Islam & Zen Buddhism, and their entire eschatology re: Paul is clearly Islamic, with the same names and similar tenor of prophecies. The religion of the ruling classes is a mix of Islam and other religions.

@@RationalReligionOriginally though Paul follows the teaching in the Orange Catholic Bible. Which is given to him by Doctor Yueh prior to arriving on Arrakis (i believe). The Orange Catholic Bible is essentially a malgamation of all religions current and futures best teachings. Paul creates a new religion. He encourages the fremen to abandon certain traditions they current hold (such as Paul having to kill Stilgar to become the leader). Paul is under no illusion that he is not a messiah, but someone utilizing the prophecy for his own means. When Paul become their Messiah the Fremen are no longer ZenSuni but follow the teachings of Muad'Dib (similar to the creation of many religions). Paul's religion essentially doesn't change since he never followed ZenSuni and his created religion was essentially a lie. To say Paul is Muslim (or the fictional Zensuni) is to miss the point of the story i think. Whilst there are obvious influences from Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Buddism. I dont think this has to specifically do with any particular religion, it just follows typical religious troupes. Most religions today borrow from other religions past and current. Such as Mithra being born on the 25 december. Or the pagan celebration of the goddess Eostre in spring (now Easter, albiet now with a new meaning but still the eggs of Eostre survive).

@@CamelliasCurios Mahdi is the name of 12 Imam in shie 12 imami or asna ashari , شیعه اثناعشری which hidden from the eyes until the end times. and He is from imam Ali blood , which shia saying he is the first Imam after Mohamad , but sunnies putting him in as fourth imam, First Imam for them is Abubakr second Omar, Thirs Osman and after Ali, so this is very foundamental difference between them. so Mahdi is not just any man who come to save muslims or He should be in line of Alis blood. So no Sunnies don't have the same concept. And sorry about the language, English is not my mother tongue.

"Paul" was a Christian apostle (c. 5 - c. 64/65 AD) who spread the teachings of Jesus in the first-century world. For his contributions towards the New Testament, he is generally regarded as one of the most important figures of the Apostolic Age, and he also founded several Christian communities in Asia Minor and Europe from the mid-40s to the mid-50s AD. So as you move past Dune and delve into its sequels: Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, and Heretics of Dune you would see Herbert's naming of Paul Atreides. As "Muad'Dib", Paul becomes the central figure of a new religion, and reluctantly unleashes a bloody war in his name across the universe.

The author obviously took inspiration from elements of Islam and Arabic culture and Arabic language... there are many Arabic words used in the book, most have been given different meanings but for example the name of the sand worms in the book is an Arabic phrase which means something like "thing of eternity" and the worms are immortal. So that ties together.

The author going for islam is probably due to his interaction with islamic mythology. It used to happen all the time the western authors get inspired by religions for their stories like the numerous greeks roman english persian indian mythology used in movies. Plus his story is set in the desert so it might be more familiar to take inspiration from arabs. And prophecies aren't unique to islam it's in Christianity buddhism hinduism dunno about judaism. Even animalistic cultures got some future prophecy.

The book Dune makes a clear distinction between the religious credulity of the masses and the religious cynicism of the elites. The Fremen are definitely of the credulous if not fantaical masses. The Fremen themselves are apersecuted mini\oeiry called the seemingly contradictory Zensunni, Zen being very popular in the 1960's. Herbert in a sense prophesied the rise of modern Islamic fundamentalism.

In the Dune series written by Frank Herbert, the Jewish religion remains intact. Yes, tens of thousands of years from now, Jews in outer space! The other interesting thing is that they dropped the word Jihad in the latest Dune movies, but was often used in the book. The other word Frank used was Paul’s Freman name Usul, which was to mean the base or foundation (of a pillar). If Frank used something really Islamic , it could have come out as Al-Qaeda, the foundation! That would really have been a mess!😅

well it is true that christians hold on some old beliefs when they converted to Islam, Issa did not die according to Surah An-Nisa (4:157). The verse states: "And [for] their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.’ And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain." and the prophet (PUBUH) said "The Day of Judgment shall not occur until you see ten signs before it: the smoke, the Antichrist, the beast, the sun rising from the west, the descent of Jesus, son of Mary, the coming of Gog and Magog, and three earth quakes (that shall shake this earth) one of them in the west and in the east and the third in the Arabian Peninsula and the 10 th of them, the final one of these signs is a fire that shall appear from Yemen and it shall gather people or force them to go to their place of resurrection (meaning to actual location of where the Day of Judgment shall occur)."

Except the Fremen aren't Muslims, the Madhi, is from the Sunni tradition of Islam, which would not have been credible if they adopt Shi'a Muslim beliefs who are the followers of who I understand to be Talib, the son in law of the Prophet Mohammed. The Fremen follow a religious belief that adopts elements of Zen Bhuddism and Sunni Islam, which has a larger following than the Sh'a. By the way I will assume that that guys know there have been more than one Madhi as their is a line of Sunni's who have claim the right to be the 'The One'. And it was the Bene Gesserit missionary Nuns, The sayadenas that put the idea of Paul being the Voice from the out world into the minds of the Fremen, keeping thier belief in the mystical idea of Paul alive. Seems for some reason my reply was deleted, no worries. I said that I never said Christianity believes Jesus (PBUH) is dead. What I was saying is the vast majority of Muslims in the world, and it's actually 95%+ of Muslims in the world are Sunni and believe this, that Jesus (PBUH) is in case not dead nor did he ever die. The Quran states clearly in 4:157 "and for boasting, "We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God." But the neither killed nor crucified him - it was only made to appear so." So I don't understand how these two "Muslims" can sit and say Jesus (PBUH) clearly died or even that the Quran says he did. In fact, if you continue to read the second half of 4:157, the Quran says "Even those who argue for his crucifixion are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever - only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him" Again like I stated earlier, with all due respect the lack of qualification to give such tafsir is blatantly obvious to literally anyone who has read the Quran. This also proves that Prophet Muhammad did not and could not have copied or taken this from other faiths because it completely contradicts the teachings of Christianity. That particular element could not have been "brought in" from Christians who converted.

Salam brothers, respectfully you have got it wrong. Issa(blessing be upon him) didn’t in fact die and was raised to the heavens. Many bukhari text mention this aswell. The verse in the Quran that mentions that all prior prophets have passed was talking in general. There are many many other verses in the Quran that suggest Issa was raised. I suggest you do some research and find the truth! Also which verse in the Quran mentions cows being descent from the sky?

That's not true. In the first few verses it says he (sa) has been sent to the Ummi Arabs. And then it says he has been raised among a people who had not yet joined them. The Sahaba clearly understand this as not being them as they asked the Prophet (sa) who these people were? He responded after the question was asked three times, saying that when faith leaves the earth a man from among the people of Hazrat Salman Farsi (ra) would bring it down - ie. A non-arab of Persian origin. This is in Sahih Bukhari. Wasalaam.

He literally says, as reported in Bukhari and Muslim, that the person who will restore faith to the ummah and will be like the second coming of the Prophet (as), will be from among the Persians. He said that he would have his name, his mother's name would be the same, he would be buried in the same grave... this obviously means that he will be like a copy of the Prophet and isn't meant literally. Many auliya said the Mahdi would be Persian and even Indian. Don't ignore these facts.

Just to be clear here. This understanding of Islam is not the general understanding of Islam. The vast majority of the muslims in the world are Sunni, something like 85%+. The Sunni idea of these subjects is slightly differently explained, yet profoundly different. These guy's specific sect of Islam is very much the minority.

You don't hide that. The majority view is that Jesus flew to heaven, has been alive for 2000 years, is going to fly back down, team up with the Mahdi, and kill lots of disbelievers. This is increasingly disbelieved among many Sunni youth, largely because of the effect of Ahmadi apologetics.

The details on exactly what will happen is defiantly up for debate due to its basis being rooted in many different Hadith. Especially regarding Jesus (PBUH) "killing lots of disbelievers." The general understanding is that Jesus (PBUH) will come back to kill Dajjal. The biggest issue I have here is these brothers is they are saying that "Jesus clearly dies" in the Quran, when in fact it is the extreme opposite. The Idea of Jesus (PBUH) not dying is a pivotal difference between Christianity and Islam. This is also aside from the fact they are giving tafsir of the Quran with no qualification or authority to do so. With all due respect, the lack of qualification to give such tafsir is blatantly obvious to literally anyone who has read the Quran. @@RationalReligion
