One thing you forgot to mention were pets. Maximize your pet to 60/60 (energy/affection) and make sure their empowerment goes to Defense Power. If you don't have mass destruction and you're using vampiric empowerment make sure your pet's other empowerment stat goes to Defense Health. The stats themselves will scale depending on the champion score of the hero they're equipped to. (NOT your overall champion score)

To be honest it's entirely up to you, for me crit is only worth it if can get above 50% for the best out put.

Just playing the game a lot dude, the more you level up and the higher you climb in onslaught means that when you AP reset you get more talent cap so you can put more into the defense.
