Thanks for the series of podcasts! I've been thinking of trying out DW, but knew nothing about pbta. You gave me understanding, so I'm downloading Uncommon World hack and starting brewing ideas for the game)

As much as I like the concept of the front, I really struggle with the use of esoteric jargon and structure. It's hard for me to envision exactly what "a move" is, or "a danger" or "a grim portent", or "resolution" or rather I guess I need more examples of them before I feel comfortable with them. I've been using a more freeform version of the same concept for years, and I think that the fronts as written offers me some good tools to use to make them better, but I'm having a hard time adapting them to my less structured preference for playing.

2 things - 1 - The benefit of having it hard-fast esoteric jargon as you mentioned is for a universal nomenclature for discussions. Also it's helpful in games that you have very little hard-fast prep done. It's not a published adventure or an adventure path - but it includes alot of freedom for adlibbing and such with players actually adding to the canon and the core elements of the game. Having these in a hard-fast way vs freeform gives a more solid skeleton frame work with which to add body to. 2 - to help understand them all, try dissecting popular works and labeling various elements of the stories with the esoteric jargon. Start with Star Wars. What is the grim portends? A Death Star will be made. The rebel base will be found. Princess Leia will be executed. The Rebel base will be destroyed. Who are the NPCS? Obviously Darth Vader is the primary, so is Tarkin, you can add a few others, uncle and aunt on Tatooine, Greedo, What are the dangers? The Death Star tractor beam, The Death Star defenses, Stormtroopers Stakes Questions: Will Obi Wan face is former pupil? Will Han Solo choose to leave with money or stay and help? Will Luke pursue the ways of The Force? Will Obi Wan tell Luke the truth about his father? Now do the same with Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lord of the Rings, Alien, The Goonies.

I'm looking to start a group for it and was wondering if you'd like to try it out and fight Xenomorphs! I got an email if you want to talk about this idea more. Maybe we could record our sessions for KZbin and make a short of "ALIEN themed Podcast." That would be fun.
