So, balsa wood tip, don't get the thin strips, get the chunky 0.25" timber. Then split it down the middle about .5" with a razor blade, and split the rest with your fingers. It brings out the natural wood grain.

The framing around the windows is called half timbering... A very common construction method Tudor times and indeed the medieval period...there's some great examples of this near where I live in the city of York (Yorkshire). The plaster they put in between the framework (usually Oak) was a technique called wattle and daub....I'm a carpenter/ joiner and although I work in a workshop making staircases I remember my collage tutor telling us about this when I was an apprentice many moons ago lol...keep up the great work...love your channel 👍

A tip for when it comes to painting the tavern front...before gluing and assembling your pieces, paint them up individually. Sometimes, getting clean coverage in tiny crevices between planking and stucco can be difficult. If it looks too clean and crisp, a wash once assembled will help pull all of the colors together.

I used some old tan battlemat I abandoned in the closet years ago, circles cut from cardboard for masking, and spray painted concentric rings. No paint on the middle "close" ring, light gray on middle "near" ring, and dark gray on "far" (to simulate torch light, I guess...). It took a couple hours letting the coats dry between the two sprays. Not nearly as aesthetically pleasing or artistic (or durable, most likely) as PDM's, but for the lazy DM it's quick, easy, and does the same thing. And it rolls up.

Extremely cool! I actually have a crafting question that's a bit off topic. I'm playing around with making a Russian style cathedral kind of like St. Basil's in Moscow. originally for the onion shaped roof pieces I planned on using some old rubber ear droppers that where made back in the 80's ( at least I haven't seen them since in stores), for the life of me I have misplaced them somewhere so I need to find a different idea, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I try to use sturdy materials in crafting to avoid things breaking constantly ( or at least try lol). Thanks in advance!
@DUNGEONCRAFT14 жыл бұрын
I'm considering making a cathedral too! My suggestion is to make the front and maybe an inch or so of roof and the first buttress. Make a kick-ass, super-detailed FRONT of a cathedral, rather than an entire cathedral you'll only use once. I'm struggling because I REALLY want to do this, I know it will kill weeks of time in my sweltering attic,, and only 5k will ever watch it.

@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 I try to avoid social media groups for various reasons but I might take you up on that. I'm an steel erector ( I build commercial and industrial steel buildings) so most of my projects come from stuff a scavage from job sites. I tend to make a lot of traps , the ends of metal pop rivets make awesome spikes ( tooth picks always break on me). I also use welding when creating a lot of things. The big draw back is of course the weight ( though I have used aluminum siding and roofing to great effect), also since the material I use is not something the common crafter could get easily it makes making any video more of a masturbatory exercise than a valid how to video for people. Do you still use speed with UDT? as in, distance covered per round? If not, how do you account for Hafling vs elf party member differences in distance during combat, for example.
@antieverything14 жыл бұрын
In actual practice it rarely ever comes up--almost every character can move across the entire battlemap in a single turn. Same goes for weapon range--the ranges are large enough that anything too far away to hit wouldn't be on the map anyway. The real issue with zone-based gameplay is that you lose out on the cool tactical movement from 3.xe/4e/5e...but if you are doing the zones thing that isn't the sort of game you are running anyway.
