@@douglascolquhoun8502 ah, Reign of Winter, aka the waifu AP without spoiling things, just let your GM know some rando on the internet said to find a better way into the dungeon in part 3 than to do 100 climb checks also, ask if you can do milestone leveling since a number of characters may join your party and it's going to get awkward with the XP split if you can't take Leadership

ProTip: There are disposable tablecloths at the dollar store. Don't ruin your counters.
@m_d19053 жыл бұрын
I was going to post this. Get the banquet table size and you can cut chunks to a decent controllable size. It has saved my "craft area", aka the dining room table.
@richmcgee4343 жыл бұрын
While you're at it, go to any decent fabric store and just buy suitably colored fabric instead of putzing around with foam. Cut to whatever shape or shapes you want, dye or paint in patterns if you really feel ambitious (although icy greens or frosty whites are easy to come by), and don't waste time on this kind of project. All he's really doing is making a flat colored surface here, which is what cloth is for if you're not springing for one of those fancy (and expensive) play mats or pre-printed maps/tiles. Prof spent more on that bottle of GW paint alone than a similar sized swatch of cloth would have cost. Foam has plenty of uses for 3D terrain, but making flats out of it? No. Just plain no.
@MySqueezingArm3 жыл бұрын
@@richmcgee434 You're wrong and you should feel wrong lol. The foam will hold up much longer than the fabric, and is used for the 3d effect to bring the game to life.
@sonicexpert9863 жыл бұрын
@@richmcgee434 You'll certainly get a different look using cloth rather than painting on foam - though it's definitely a good idea to use cheap craft paints instead of expensive mini paints, which I believe PDM did - Apple Barrel is typically $2.00 for each bottle, if not less. What the video may not capture is that layers of paint like that actually does create texture in addition to color, which for this project in particular would be highly desirable. But! If cloth looks good to you and you like it, more power to you! Whatever gets people to play at the table.
@AzraelThanatos3 жыл бұрын
For the painting and other work, just find some of the large, cheap, plastic trash bags. They can get tossed easily enough and are portable for if you want to work in different places, and by being movable, you can find bits and pieces of things that might get loose.

This zoned approach to terrain also works really well for The One Ring TTRPG combat encounters where there aren't movement rules per se. Instead, characters have stances which determine if they're ranged (opening volleys in One Ring parlance) or in melee (close quarters in One Ring parlance)

I had a week to produce 15 Stalingrad type ruins for a 40K game. I knew it was going to be a mess, pva, black paint, grey paint, gravel and sand, bits of coffee stirrer, airbrushing, then the clean up. All to be done in the kitchen. This was not just one building discreetly made but a whole production line. It was all done over a week between 10.30 pm and up to 2am some nights. And Mrs B to this day does not know that it all happened in her lovely kitchen.

The links you mentioned in the video are missing Also, for ice, adding a thick layer of gloss polyeurethane varnish before the snow paste would upgrade the look. I'd also suggest going with the vallejo snow ground texture rather than the GW option, it's close to the same stuff, but far cheaper for a lot more.
