Oh what terrible luck to be born a Dretch in D&D...Wait I just had an idea.A one shot game where all the player characters are Dretches trying to survive and get out from under the heels of a greater demon.

"shrieking torture plushies"... Well that's is immediately going onto my list of band names. Also, now my campaign has to have one of those slightly more "refined" demons such as a Balor or a Glabrezu using one as a stress ball... Cultist: "my immortal lord! the adventures! they-" Glabrezu: "Ahh... those pathetic do-gooders I sent on a wild goose chase after their precious mentor..." ( Glabrezu reaches down and plucks a dretch out of a large serving bowl and begins to caress it with its massive claws) Cultist: "Uh.. yes, erm well, actually no, but... well..." Glabrezu: "Well? well what?! Out with it slave!" (The Glabrezu's grip tightens and the dretch makes a sound akin to a cross between a rubber duck and a torture victim) Cultist: "Well... you see... they... they're...) Glabrezu: "You try my patience mortal." ( The dretch's sickly squeaking increases in pitch) Cultist: "They... they're here" Glabrezu: "..." (*squelch!*)

I like the idea of a slightly smarter dretch. Who gets summoned by a kobold shaman. And they start worshipping the dretch as their god! And then the kobolds start getting or violent because of the influence of the abyss. So your party of adventurers must go down the cave of the kobolds with nasty traps and rabid kobolds. Only to find a massive fat dretch. A massive anticlimax but shows the players what the weakest demon can do! Imagine what a more powerful demon could do!

Good idea. Actually, perhaps Mites summon one by mistake when they mess with a stolen magic item.

@AJPickett6 жыл бұрын
Ah, it's a bit better if I talk about that when I have covered the basic definitions of demon types, so when I talk about transformations, progressions, roles, niches and regressions or de-evolutions, viewers will not be completely lost as I rattle off all the different names. Good call though, certainly a very interesting subject.

I am imagining the worst demon cultist ever, who is jealous of another's Quasit, and then ends up with a Dretch. At first impressed at it being bigger, but end up shouting at it to do anything, or actually think it is amazing with wise telepathic words as they pamper it, or a Team Rocket's Meowth situation.

I was in a campaign where by insane luck, this one Dretch we encountered early on kept coming back, and over time began to metamorphous and mutate in to more powerful forms (either by steeling items or getting magic power-ups. He got killed at one point (or sent back to the Abyss I guess), having become a reoccurring villain, but was then revived some time later by an elvish Lich who was gunning for the party because our leader was the Lich's descendant and mortal (unmortal?) enemy. Anywho, long story short, Jenus the Ultra-Dretch eventually betrayed the Lich, and then after that found a Sibriex to transform him in to Jenurex, The Interminable Prince, and became the final boss of the campaign, having taken over the first two layers of the 9 Hells. In the end the party led an army of devils against his demon hoard, and managed to get him in to a magic circle to take him back to the abyss (after we bamphed through the Astral Sea, The Plane of Fire, our beholder ‘friend’s Spelljammer Spaceport, Athas, and a few other places the party had been) where we finally defeated him and cast him down in to an abyssal vortex that led to beyond the far realm. So obviously he’s probably gonna show up again at some point. Jenurex is interminable after all…

Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the range of things I could add I don't think about how to tie the monsters into the storyline.

short range teleporting dretches would be cool, like just afew feet or meters, all stiinky an incompotent murderous evil attacking a party... untill they learn to fear them. the. hard. way... maybe a party of goblins. do devils enjoy getting at dretches due to the whole blood war thing, just torturing the litteral hell out of them? *pictures a balor chowing down on them with a huge metal bucket, like living popcorn chicken, where they are trapped because they're pushing each other to the top instead of working together to escape* "Now i am inevitable. nom nom, before i could have been stopped. nom nom, but i wouldn't tell you! nom nom, and i didn't!?!? hahaha! nom nom there is no way that you'll, nom nom NOM nom, stop me from corupting your lands, nom, your rivers, nom, your villages, your food, your CRUNTCH air... your wemen, your men nom, even your children. yes your children well be corrupted, and all your food. even you are being corrupted now, seeing me eat dretches with my mouth full, like your mother warned you not too. everyone hates dretches nom nom, they deserve to always be gluttoned down by greater evils like me for every conceivable reason! eaten alive, crutched down, and spocken out with a filthy full mouth. it feels so GOOD! grrARRGH!! i'm going to crush your wooden house with my elbow now & you're going to like it. i know... nom nom, i know you think you wont... but you will. and yes silly soft succulent mortal when i get to the bottom of this delightfull bucket, you'll be next, but by then no one will be able to tell "the difference..." not even me." @_@

I'm more than happy to share his happenstance for the sake of playing( I miss playing, vs gm' ing). Lvl 14 rogue, lvl 16 mage with specifics. Post realm of the dead gods(orcus spell book), post idk what else XD... Really tho, if u are looking to run as gm... Maybe we should work together a lil for a high level intro for the audience. It's a great character and I'd be proud to provide the cross section for a fun little intro for folks interested in what may happen when like minds meet.
