I have a question... So, the aedra Kynareth, Kyne, Kin, exc. (whatever denominational-ish name you want to call the goddess) supposedly has a relationship with the daedra, Peryite, as it's typically believed that Kynareth actually gives the souls of dead skeevers to Peryite. So my question is... Why would Kynareth ever do this!? Is the goddess in a type of debt? Does she gain something from giving Peryite the souls of these skeevers? Can anyone give an explanation/theory for why Kynareth would ever do this..?
@jorlok_zander7 жыл бұрын
+Billy Goats , I believe daedras and aedras don't necessarily hate each other. They were the same thing once. I mean, obviously they would hate someone like Merhunez Dagon, since he is just a jackass that wants to ruin their day, but you have to keep in mind, that most other daedras actually have not only a free access to Nirn, but also an ability to manipulate it in some ways they wish, without threat of being punished or expelled by aedras. Take Azura as an example. She is basically the one responsible for almost everything regarding Chimer/Dunmer since first era and up to Elder Scrolls:Morrowind, which happens in third era. Not only she was directly contacting them in the first era, but she also was the one that cursed them into dunmer. She was also the one that, sort of, "created" Nerevarine. So she literally had an ability that you don't usually see a daedra possessing, nevermind, even being allowed to use it in Nirn. Yet, aedras are mostly ok with that, cause they aren't enemies with daedras, at least naturally. That's how I see it.
@DraydanGuitarist7 жыл бұрын
Technically you're both right and wrong , the thing is , in the official lore it's stated that the aedras have used most of their powers to create nirn and ward it , being tricked by lorkhan , alot of theories around there suppose that perhaps shor and lorkhan would be in fact the same entity by the way. Anyways , basically the creation of Nirn had a toll , which was pretty much the aedras having way less power permanently , this is why you don't see the nine influence as much as the deadras, unless it is highly needed like in oblivion, but then again it required some type of link for akatosh to actually materialise, which was martin's blood. The reason why deadras can interact so freely in the world of Nirn would rather be because a) akatosh's barrier is now permanently down b) all aedras are pretty much a shadow of their former selves and c) Some deadras are actually beneficial in some way shape or form to nirn, like Azura , Meridia and even peryite to some extent as he does allow diseases immunity to be a thing by spreading them ever so often , and he could perhaps aswell be acting as i type of balance for Nirn's ecosystem. If you check within the TES lore, i believe the only moments you'll see the aedras really acting either directly or near directly is during one of the worse deadra's attempts to enter Nirn or invade it, like with mehrunes dagon.

2:50 It's important to note that 5th edition is best described as a gestalt of 3.5 and 4, meant more to improve on 4th edition than to build on the work from previous system iterations. To phrase it more concisely, 4th edition reworked the system almost completely and 5th edition is a correction of those mistakes by pulling the foundations of 3rd edition. For a successor to 3rd edtion (more specifically 3.5) look to Pathfinder, which is an improvement made to 3.5 after Wizards reworked it.

Whether the rules improve as they create new editions is debatable. In order for the brand to continue and make money, new editions are necessary to keep sales coming in. It's not so much about refining the rules as it is about moving product. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with 5E, or even 4E, I just wouldn't say that they're superior to older editions. House rules make the previous editions very playable and fun, and generally the older the edition is the more forgiving it is on what rules you include or exclude.

Sorry, but your planar model (starting at 4:25) is the the 4e version, called the World Axis model. We are now back to the Great Wheel model as the "official" model. This was introduced in 1e with the Manual of the Planes [which I HIGHLY recommend reading BTW]. The Great Wheel persisted through 2e, 3e and 3.5e only to be replaced (arguably along with nearly everything else 'cool' about D&D up to that point) in 4e to the World Axis model along with greatly simplifying the multiverse as a whole. This was switched back in 5e (thankfully). Of course. the DM can choose any model you want, and this is discussed in chapter 2 of the 5e DMG. Another awesome video BTW, thanks!

I actually believe 4th edition was great, and it was my first foray into D&D. It will always hold a special place in my heart as a fun table top/minis rpg. Currently I love 5th edition, and I can now better understand why everyone didn't like 4th, it is a huge departure from the original game, it was a gamble and it seem that it didn't work out for most people.
@Krishnath.Dragon5 жыл бұрын
The issue was that the person who was tapped to make 4th edition wasn't interested in making a role playing game. He wanted a miniature's battle game to rival Warhammer. As such he pretty much ignored everything that had come before, ruleswise, and made everything revolve around miniatures, and nearly killed D&D because of it. This is also why 5E is a lot closer to 3.5 when it comes to the rules, and why fan input was a major part of the 5th edition development process.

The Nethervale setting wasn’t introduced till late in 4e, originally it was kept undefined, so GMs we’re encouraged to each create their own unique settings, based in the fairly vague cosmology if the edition. Honestly I think this is the best way to do it, that way the player characters really matter and don’t get overshadowed by whatever the hundreds of established power players in Forgotten Realms are doing.

I'm making a near completely home brew campaign world that has a mechanic that allows official D&D creatures to exist in it. the mechanic is called the thin veil. basically the "veil" between universes for Artoria (the world I'm talking about" is loose and weak, and things from Artoria and toril and any fiction can flow to and from. but it will always function relatively differently due to it being another universe. an example would be the aboleth's toxin. it's clear skin gill effect is temporary due to the way it reacts to most beings and the creatures that live in Artoria's seas will often be able to defeat an aboleth quite easily since 90% of what lives in Artoria's seas basically have deep sea gigantism.

With alternate material planes, like earth, being apart of a completely separate universe. And the cosmology that is shown is simply the mystical arrangement of the Realms in this universe. If anyone has ever played the d20 Modern campaign Urban Arcana it shows what happened on the other side of the Forgotten Realms. Basically the real world keeps getting "visitors" from the other side and they all just look like tall or short or hairy people to most but to a few others they see that there's a tiefling working the night shift at McDonald's or the pimp on the corner of the bad street they live near is actually a gnoll. So every so often the "realities" keep mashing together and dropping things into each other's worlds. And in Urban Arcana there's a secret government organization you play with that follows these things. And let me tell you, finding out the dumpster behind the alley in the building you're trying to get into turning out to be a mimic is pretty freaking terrifying.

Nice video. Unfortunately I believe the big difference between older editions and 5th now is that it has become super combat based with skills being easier. It's not so much about the story, where things could be resolved without combat. 2nd edition was the closest, ever since 3 with all these prestige classes and stuff it has been too combat oriented. Too bad Pathfinder is the same way, but I feel more balanced.
@Jargas1016 жыл бұрын
Were there more actual non combat skills or just the way information is presented? In the 5e books pretty much all info given for making a character is combat number related stuff.
@Sav-C-Bin5 жыл бұрын
@@Jargas101 5e is all about combat in the books for the reason of not limiting your imagination when story is concearned. In previous edditions much of the roleplaying abilities where special character traits, now you can attempt almost anything you come up with (except for combat, not to descend into a freeform). There are some problems with that, e.g. new players who don't see the idea behind it and start murderhobbing from the very beginning, which makes DMs accountable for explaining the proper way to play. You may say that roleplaying's transited from mechanics to common sense.

I feel like the rules simply change to encourage different aesthetics. for example the older editions tend to be very simple as far as rules and they also tend to be very hardcore, killing you without much difficulty. and the newer editions tend to be slightly more complex, but tend to be more high fantasy, where you could more easily become a legendary hero.

I like most of your videos but this was particularly enjoyable for some reason. Maybe it just adds some perspective
