I've no idea what the general opinion of this game is but I started to enjoy myself after a short time. Maybe it's worse than it appears but as far as new player experiences go, I've had much worse.

Smaller numbers always feel better, when you start doing more damage it's a lot more tangible going from 5 damage to 10 than going from 1400 to 2800. Been watching all the videos and really loving seeing your take on these games. Great second monitor content. I am yet another one who hopes you do World of Warcraft Classic. Thanks for the videos :)

Certainly so. Much more convenient. it's simply certain "hype" reasons why they increase the numbers so much in certain games, publicity, tactical atmospheric impressions to make it seem more "bombastic" but to be frank I don't really want my UI to be bombastic, simply the atmosphere and combats (grafics maybe).

If you're willing to play some more in the keybinings menu there's 3 buttons with different profiles. One is "FPS" wich makes A/D strafe and enables mouselook (can be toggled on/off by pressing T).

@brianstevens3858 Жыл бұрын
You can customize this too, I personally replace my right left move buttons with strafe, it allows for some serious Rasalhague maneuvering while shooting/swinging.

it's actually better to not getting used to mouselook in the long run, especially for ranged combat and spellcasting.

@@demogorgon4244 I play predominantly ranged toons, Using the right click to toggle mouselook allows me to throw flasks, and pick up things on the run, heal without resorting to keys, I tried it set on default and would so often drink a pot by accident or nothing would happen at all because I hit the wrong key, I didn't grow up with a keyboard, they were all called typewriters when I was young. The only commercially available computers didn't even come out until I was an adult. I learned how to use hand tools before I learned how ro type.

i have like 7 ability bars, and 3 more for bufs, the mayority of them i can activate with keyboard commands and modifier keys, one that i have on the middle mouse button, i am constantly on mouselook, just deactivating it to click a few bufs, or pick stuff up, i play a wiz ranged/melee mix

you can actually hire hirelings and do the harder version of the dungeons with the hirelings. Great video. been playing for years. I am just now starting to reincarnate my character into different classes

I'm playing this game for over a decade but just after your video I've realised how unfriendly (in terms of not intuitive) this is for new players (especially not familiar with D&D 3.5 system). I'm glad you've take the time to give it a chance.

played this game on and off for about 8 years and i have always just loved it over other mmo's. as a new player you can ask for help and you will usually get it as the community is pretty friendly, dont think i have ever had a bad experience or seen someone toxic. i also wouldnt mind making a new character and going through quests with you. there is alot to explore and just experience as well as quests that you will come to love and to hate. you also just missed a week where they did had halloween event going but there is a winter one that is currently ongoing. anyways great vid and hope you play more! the game is really unique in what it does.

It’s an old game but a goodie. A little harder to get into for brand new players, but the game mechanics and instanced dungeons/explorer area style of play are unique in the MMO genre. The game has its faults, but I love it and keep coming back (have been playing off and on since launch).

I love your way of witty talking and the feedback you are giving that I've seen in 2 videos now (last one was DDO vs neverwinter...) I am a newb to both so they both help me but were also enjoyable to watch/listen to. (looking for classic game during holidays) I could probably watch quite many of your videos if I got the time and didn't want to play also! (Will certainly check out more that interest me) Greetings from Germany P.s.: I know I am at the correct place, as I do not like MMOs, too.

It would be cool to see you do more videos on this game. DDO is a great game that still gets regular updates. If you are looking to get the group experience send a message... I play on the Sarlona server and can show you around.

Thank you Pete for your review of Dungeons & Dragons Online. I used to play the game with a small group of friends and we run dungeons together. It was a lot of fun. I played as an elven ranger.

I've been playing dnd this week, and it has a certain charm to it.. Like I can see the potential.. The issue I'm having is that it feels like a single player game, since no ones around.. But looking at the current playerbase of mmorgps.. its quiet hard to find populated mmorpgs these days.. Which is wild considering the amount of games and players the genre once had.

What puts people off playing is a whole topic of its own and probably consits of a lot of little answers leading to a big problem. I don't think I'm smart enough to dive into this but I might give it a try.

That quest at 11:38 gives you res cake so if you die use that to stay in the quest without restarting the whole quest over after coming back in the pub

1:20 Those ratings of how challenging a class is to play were there since the beginning and have never been updated through the numerous balancing tweaks. Which, actually, causes another issue for new players (the suggestions are incorrect), but pretty much any class now can be new-player-friendly.

A little tip for aiming ranged attacks manually, hold right click or press 't' and it will give a center of screen reticle.

Thing about these games for me is really the graphics engine. I think if they got money to do a full remaster it would be amazing because DDO has some great QoL and player centric systems.

long time DDOer, no other MMO/RPG is like it. i keep coming back because I adore the combat system. I will be the first to admit it is a bit kludgy, but no other game has the same targeting system.

DDO has the highest entry wall, but it gets REALLY good if you can learn the basics. 1) Character building is the best I've seen in decades. 2) The quests are the best I've seen ever. Seriously the amount and variety of content is at this point nearly endless. 3) It's still action combat, and I MUCH prefer it to turn based. These three make it the best MMO for me overall. I don't care much about graphics though.

Just play the game. It will be a few hours before you run into any content that you aren't given for free, and by then you should have some in store currency to buy a pack you want without spending any actual money. Get a feel for how the game plays before deciding if it is something you feel is worth spending money on. $100 gets you almost ALL of the content for an entire year, some of us spend that much on eating out in less than a month, you can sacrifice a few nights of pizza for hours of entertainment
