This video made me realize how much of my childhood was Rookgaard...! Back in the day it was so crowded you would have to share creatures with other players, making exping very slow! What a time it was. I've recently been experiencing the nostalgia of old Tibia through a private server called dura-online. Maybe not for you, but it's been great. -H

Unfortunately I have no nostalgia to work with here. But if this was the entry to the game then I can certainly see why so many people have fond memories of it!

there's an unexplainable envy I feel for things that others find nostalgic that I'm unable to because I never experienced said things

I am going to cry! Seriously Pete, this blows my mind, your view of Rookgaard went even beyond what I originally remembered it for, ah I'm so glad you played through it, I really hope game devs in the future watch your videos and take some thorough notes because yeah, starting zones should strive to be like this. And players really deserve some well crafted stories and a nice snippet of the world to adventure. Also it's funny I never actually did any of the quests because back then I didn't even understand English, I could barely take my money out of the bank, and still had the coolest time in Rookgaard, exploring the land was my quest and going to mainland afterwards was such an achievement.

Awesome video man! Rookgaard holds a dear place in all old tibians hearts, we spent MONTHS grinding through rook back in the day (mind you the quests you did didn’t exist and it was a lot more just figuring it out yourself). People have characters that stay on Rookgaard because it still feels like old Tibia. I hope you get hooked on the game as a new player, it’s such an awesome game with SO much to offer. Any questions you have will happily be answered on the subreddit, we’re all dying for more English Tibia content and this is awesome.

it's been a few years since I have seen Rookgaard, so thank you for the entertaining trip down memory lane. If I were to guess why it was replaced by the new tutorial island, I'd say it was mostly because Rookgaard never introduced new players to vocations, so a new player would play 5+ hours trying to reach level 8 (the quest line you completed that takes you there was a fairly "new" addition, before it one would have to grind the 4200 experience points required for it in 5 to 25 increments) before randomly picking a vocation based on its name with no idea of what it's like. Chances are high they could regret their uninformed choice and would have to repeat the process all over, after having to look up the different vocations outside of the game. Edit to clarify: Just reached the part of the video regarding the Destiny Island that actually explains the vocations. It was also added over a decade after Rookgaard was introduced. Before it you would chose your vocation and starting city when speaking to the oracle. Edit for possibly helpful information: - try "looking" at items/players. Under classic controls (you can find it on the settings) it is shift+left click, while "use" is right click. I, as an older player, never got used to the new default controls so I have no idea how to look using them, sorry. I found them more confusing because they are contextual, so a left click could be anything depending on the situation, while the classic controls are predictable. - there is an auto-follow option so you don't need to manually run after mobs when they are low on health or that simply keep their distance, such as the shaman boss in the rookgaard questline. To enable it just select the "walking guy icon" right below the "standing red guy icon". These icons are on your battle controls right next to the equipment / below the minimap. - whenever you are looking for a rope spot, you can zoom in the minimap to the maximum. Rope spots (and open holes / stairs / portals) are always yellow pixels. There are also holes you can fall through that close after a while. These are camouflaged and don't appear yellow on the minimap when they are closed, so be on the lookout. - get familiar with the hotkey (shortcuts) system. You can set any slot on your action bar (the ones that start with F1, F2, F3) to automatically say something (such as a spell), use an item (such as food or potions), or use an item with/on your current target (such as runes)

I used to play tibia back around 06 when I was in high school. Recently just came back and was surprised (in a good way) glad you like it! I'd be interested to see videos of your journey to higher levels too!

When i returned to Tibia finding out that Rookgaard was not the starting area anymore, I was really disappointed. But it's great to see it's actually still in the game - wish I knew this before.

ehh not the original experience, the questline is new, the wanderlust of discovering all quests and secret chests(you literally missed a doublet hidden under one of the boards of the cellar where the first catapul is, the note in the wall gives you the hint to pry under the boards) or cool hunting spawns like skeleton grave, minotaur hell, rotworm cave, the blind orc or even the dead sailor cave where you needed the antidote runes that the herbalist used to sell (specially since you foudn the book that thaught you the language to speak with the blind orc) is lost when you do that questline, Love the video anyways!, I remember dragging rat corpses aroudn to sell to the tavern npc in town as well and yelling SELL MACE 60gp (there are yelling controls makes your chat range higher) in the middle of town 💛💛

tutorial and this rookgard quest is quite new thing, back in my days there was no such thing as tutorial, you had to read the tibia forum or ask people in game to learn the mechanics

While I get why you liked rookgaard better, there isn't a main questline to follow in the mainland compared to rook. New players growing to expect that will be put off or lost. Also venore is a terrible starting city. It contains a frequent raid that kills new and low lv chars caught in it. Recommend traveling to thais or elsewhere.
