Improve the parkour controls, take out level timers, and the game's actually pretty good at that point. The "cylinder" level design is actually a pretty ingenious way to combine varied paths with speed of progression.

@@initialssg4379 I mean they have the red coins or w/e and more open levels which tells me they want the player to slow down and explore some times. There would be nothing wrong with it if it weren't for the timers and several other nagging problems like the "power up has expired" messages.

@@Mikeanglo If you button mash even just a little the power up expired message skips so fast you don't see it. You can speedrun through a choice of paths with most of the open levels, you're not limited to just one. I think it's sorta how different paths work in a 2D Sonic game that way. I never had a timer expire, I didn't even realize it was an issue for somebody until this video. I'm not saying it's a perfect game, but it's vastly better when people don't play it like it was a Yooka-Laylee- type game. I replay Lost World a lot because mastering the mechanics is super satisfying once it all clicks. Gameplay is better for me than Generations because of that. Not a huge Sonic fan, I just like crazy games.

The comedic genius of this stream is that Lost World is slapping Dunkey around for playing it how he does but he's the kind of of player to power through it all in style anyway. The only nice thing about Lost World is maybe Robotnik. Collectables are so often used as traps and since they aren't really needed to win, some of Sonic Team are taking the piss on how every 3D game uses collectables. Some enemies and boosts are placed to speed Sonic up and others are placed to slow him down, or also as traps. Same with powerups. You get used to a mechanic and they deliberately switch up something about it and make that part of the next level. They put in skips if you die too much and powerups so you don't have to play sections, but if you're stupid enough to do it, you might easily miss something about the mechanics that will help you later. The stupid VO makes you hate the bosses so much that you want to beat them as quick as possible and get on with the next level. But the game design respects you if you do the old school thing and learn the game.

i think the idea is that the critters fell onto the planet the game takes place on, which is why sonic and tails try landing there in the first place. you release a couple of them after beating a level in the game. dont ask how they survived the fall tho lol

Sonic lost world is a weird one in the sonic franchise due to how it doesn’t play like any other game in the franchise. It’s not classic 2D gameplay, it’s not like any of early 2000s 3D games like Adventure or heroes either, nor does it play like the boost games like color generations. It’s not a bad game but it’s definitely not the best game either. It has its moments but it also has its frustrations.

The Sonic timer has always counted up. Like a stop watch. Now it counts down. Just to kill you but then give you your time back. I explore the levels sometimes because you’re supposed to find the red rings. But explore or try stuff for too long you die. Why….

There’s the timer. Then there’s the double jump you can’t use on an enemy. Double jump across a gap and hit an enemy? You get hurt not the enemy. They brought back collectible requirements from unleashed and you’ll need 7000 critters to finish the game. The ice skating. The snowball. The fruit. It’s like the game is trying to stop me from liking it.
