In a live setting, when what you're playing is getting washed up by the drummer's cymbals, the other guitar player, and the bassist, and the vocals.... those fine hi-fi differences between the two pedals don't really make one damn bit of difference at stage volume levels. Does the little one fuzz like the big one? Yes.

Gordon Tubbs that is true however when you're recording, i think these small differences do matter.
@bradt.3555

So true, as with so many comparisons on utube. It's all geared mostly to the living room guitarist. And what you get sounding good with no band sounds like crap when put with band. I don't like my tone when it's not in a band mix. But sounds great when I listen to the band played back.

@@bradt.3555 1. Every "band mix" is different. 2. There are way more living room guitarists than gigging guitarists, and that's where the money is, and that's where all the KZbin views come from. John Mayer ain't sitting in his hotel room watching fuzzface demos. He's snorting coke ("allegedly!") off Ariana Grande's ass and telling her he's a 9th degree black belt, a "made man" in the Sinaloa cartel, and about how he used his "hood pass" to negotiate the truce between the Bloods and the Crips in L.A. 3. The average real gigging guitarist ain't pulling out his credit card to order $400 Strymon Volantes to put on his $400 Rockboard 5.4. He's trading a handful of ones and fives for a used $25 Joyo boost pedal to put on his pedal "board" (literally a board from a job-site). 4. The living room guitarist could just as easily say that guys who play in a band don't know what good gear sounds like because their hearing is shot, and also point out that if you can barely hear yourself through an 8" monitor over the bass, the drums, the maniacal laughter, Karens asking to speak to the manager, bus trays full of plates and forks, fist-fights and police radios then you might not be the one to ask about the subtle differences in tone of two nearly identical effects pedals. 5. We all love music, regardless of whether we play it all night for a living, or we work all day to be able to buy gear and play it in our precious few hours of free time. Let's not let them turn us against each other like they have everyone else. We have more in common with each other than meaningful differences. 6. How you going to demo pedals over splashes, crashes, drunken laughter and slap bass? Who ever told the sound guy that he needs more cymbal and hostess ("Jones party of six!") in his monitor? That's what you're doing. That's what you been complaining about.

This pedal is not the 'Hendrix sound in a box' by any means. It is only inspired by one of the sounds Jimi had in his career, which was faithfully reproduced. In his later performances and recordings, (most notably the Band Of Gypsies) Jimi started using a silicon transistor fuzz face, similar to this one. Earlier in his career, Jimi was known to use a germanium transistor fuzz, more similar to the red fuzz face from Dunlop's current offering. In the late 60's germanium transistors seized to exist in the U.S. which forced the manufacturer to switch to Silicon ones, specifically the BC108. The rest is history.

Just me or the big one is being powered by a 9v battery and the little one by a dc power jack? Unfair! My Fuzz Face sounds very different when being powered by a carbon-zinc 9v baterry (what I seldom do, for practical reasons) - but it's a much better sound (more definition, less "noise around the edges").

To my ears, the father has a well defined growl, especially on the lower spectrum of the frequency. The son is not bad, but I find it a tad bit harsher on the top end. Could it be the difference between battery vs power supply? However I found similar difference in another video in which both are powered by a battery. Just ordered the full-size and will probably be selling my mini. Let see..

Only complaint I have about the father fuzz is that it , ONLY runs on a 9V. The mini you have an option. And the lrg fuzz you can't run side by side with short plugs. Your input & output plugs need to be a little longer . A little farther to connect on a pedalboard .

A part of me prefers the Mini because I don't power any of pedals with batteries if I can help it... But I like that the full size is a more vintage recreation, and I really kind of like huge pedals... But the decision for me really comes down to the inside. If i ever need to do some repair to the pedal, The giant case with hardly any parts inside it is perfect... Wouldn't want to even try to get at anything inside the mini with the way everything is jammed right up in it.

Did Jimmy use a Fuzz Face? Yes. Is this a perfect replica of what he used? Probably not. Is this going into the same amp Hendrix used? No. Is the pedal set the same way as Jimmy's? Maybe... Point is, this isn't about getting Jimmy's tone. This channel is extremely useful because gearmandude doesn't introduce many variables and you can get a good idea of what the pedal does (natural sounds). Have some respect. Also, your argument is a logical fallacy and nobody can confirm whether you ever went to a Hendrix concert without you providing evidence.
