A bit of an oddball item - TrailPix Ultralight tripod. It’s really for long distance or multi day hiking. Uses your trekking poles as part of the setup (2 legs) and a foldable pole as the third leg. It’s super light - that’s the “selling” feature. I’ve taken it on 4-8 day coastal hikes to allow me to take long exposures of waterfalls and water features.

The Atoll is something I just heard about last week. I was like, wow, that is a great idea. Some of the reasons were obvious, like replacing L mounts, eliminates some of the drawbacks of L mounts, useful for lenses that have no collar, etc. I never even thought about that low angle thing, I never bother to use that setup on my tripod due to the upside down camera just feels so awkward. I would totally use it like this, I love low angles. I just checked the KS, it's now over 160K! People definitely are excited for it, I can't wait to get at least one of them. I actually reached out to the company on FB to ask if in the future they plan to make one that will also work on a camera that has a grip mounted to it, since it looks as though you can remove the main pieces from the base piece that attaches to the camera. They said they would like to, and it will depend on how much support they get. Hopefully they have enough now.
@Perceivedshift Жыл бұрын
Just ordered one, its going to come real handy for my real estate shoots! The one drawback of my 3 axis leveler is that I can't tilt my camera 90 degrees like I can with a ball-head. I was thinking about a cage, glad I found the Atoll first! When shooting a home speed is king, so this just looks so perfect.

The Atoll looks really cool! Only drawback I can immediately see is that it's not compatible with a 'nodal rail' or 'panorama rail'. On those rails, the Arca-Swiss connection is perpendicular to how the Atoll connects. If they made the Atoll base more square-ish like the Falcam/PD quick release plate, it would work both ways. Maybe something you can suggest to them...

And you are the hidden gem among Videographers, "hidden" only in the sense of non-splashy, worthy reporting, and heart-of-the-matter information. Batteries are the "heart" of my photo frustration: Too many different kinds, too many exaggerated claims, too costly, and prone to failure at Murphy's Law timing. What is worse? Why, battery chargers, of course! And for all the same reasons. So thank you for presenting some new ideas here. I will take advantage of this information next week when my charge card resets itself for a new month. 🤣
@dw.in.michigan2 жыл бұрын
Many of my accessories are just little things to help me be a little more organized, or at least less encumbered with all the "stuff" that I have to use. A lot of it isn't even photography-related. The first thing on my list is the Black Rapid tripod jacket. This thing is awesome. You can put as much or more in this as you would in a small camera bag. I wish they'd alter its design just a bit, to make it easier to attach tautly to different types of tripods, but that's the only negative thing I can say about it. I've placed direct-step step-up rings on my most commonly used lenses to make them 77mm, so that if I switch lenses I can just just keep switching lens caps and not have to putz around looking for the right one. It also means carrying only one ring adapter with my square filter system. What few circle filters I have are 77mm, so they're instantly usable on all those lenses. Heavy duty, woven velcro straps with carabiner clips for stroller handles. These are excellent for wrapping around the tripod legs so that you can clip anything you want quick access to right there on the tripod. Reflective tape and glow in the dark tape. Since I do primarily nighttime photography, these are invaluable for putting on gear to increase its visibility in the dark. I've put it on almost EVERYTHING, including the inner and outer surfaces of my front and rear lens caps. Nite Ize bottle opener with flat blade. The flat blade is a much better size for the screws that are on most arca and dovetail plates. The bottle opener needs no explanation. And it clips right onto the aforementioned velcro strap with carabiner. I've got one on each tripod. Multicolored velcro cord minder straps. With nighttime photography there are so many moving parts of what you're trying to do, the multicolor straps allow you to devise your own color code to help you keep your cords straight so you know what's going to what. And lastly, Crown Royal bags. They make nice lens pouches, stuff sacks, etc. You can buy those cord pincher thingies so that you can cinch the bags closed. Just ask the bartender at your favorite watering hole to save you the bags - they probably just throw them away.

I tried #4 the Ulanzi system last year and I couldn't get it tight enough for my GH5 Leica 100 - 400mm combo. There was movement that wouldn't go away. Too bad I really wanted it to work.
@NeeMo922 жыл бұрын
An issue with the Ulanzi Falcam F38 Quick Release system: While the plates and bases on the outer side are arca compatible, the slots are not. What this means in practice: if you have a cage or bracket (eg.: SmallRig) you won't be able to insert it into the F38. This is not stated clearly in any product description. But it is easy to see if one compares the profiles of the inserts, regular arca plates have a taller straight base below the drafted parts of the wedges If you by the whole system and use it solely it's gona be okay, just don't expect full arca compatibility.
@dunnadidit2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I’m not sure I fully understand though. Are you saying that you can’t use other arca Swiss plates in the f38 base?
@NeeMo922 жыл бұрын
@@dunnadidit Yes. I've bought the base and plate kit. And thought I could convert via it a ball head that is velbon proprietary to arca compatible by screwing the falcam base on the velbon plate. Unfortunately the F38 base doesn't accept all arca compatible plates. The issue is that the F38's dovetail and slot cross section is thinner that the original arca. This way other arca slots can accept F38 dovetails, but not vice versa
@dunnadidit2 жыл бұрын
Okay I see what you’re saying. I guess I just never expected it to work that way since most specific quick releases don’t work that way, the work in arca swiss heads, but don’t accept arca swiss necessarily. But it would be cool if it were somehow cross compatible every which way. I don’t even know if that’s possible without it literally just being arca swiss haha.

Good stuff… The Arsenal 2 looks like it could be fun to play with…but the reviews. 😕 Kinda mixed… As it’s not something that I NEED…I think I’ll wait & see. Gonna keep tabs on that one though…don’t care about it picking settings as such, but some of the features could be fun. The Atoll seems like a great alternative to L brackets for those that want to save a bit of cash. I have RRS L brackets on all of my cameras, and Arca “feet” on all of my longer lenses, none of which are on the “reasonably priced” side of the scale, so I’m not their primary market…but if it works like it looks…could be a great alternative for a lot of people. Not big on 3rd party batteries because given what many cameras cost…OEM batteries are cheap. Yeah, I’ll fully admit that I don’t understand that one. Spend hundreds/thousands on a body…and then hundreds/thousands on lenses…and then worry about saving a few bucks on a batteries. Why? LOL That blower though looks like it could find its way into a bag or two.

Dunna, should look at comments on Arsenal 2 before recommending it, personally still waiting for delivery. Have you actually used the finished product. Also F38 plate will not work with PeakDesign Tripod 🤬.
@dunnadidit2 жыл бұрын
Yeah actually I waited on recommending it for a long time because when I originally got to try it, the software was still pretty buggy but they’ve improved it a lot now to the point where I really enjoy using it for the things I mentioned in the vid. As for the f38 on the peak, I pulled those two little screws out of the top of the peak tripod to slap in the f38 base. I just taped the two screws to one of the legs so I wouldn’t lose them. Workarounds… but they work haha.
