Football is such a big sport and pretty much every country has multiple divisions that have promotion and relegation so there's just so much talent out there, it's easy for an elite player to go under the radar, Drogba for example

in my opinion football is the best sport in finding hidden talents. the thing is if you are good enough you will eventually rise to an area of prominence like gyokeres it took him till 24/25 to finally start to get noticed but the important thing is that hes now getting noticed . having an open talent acquisition system is where football has the advantage to sports leagues like nba and nfl. its a meritocracy

It's difficult for scouts ; even if it becomes easier with everybody showing their kid's highlights on internet ; because as Gyokeres, he was, not only in a lower league, but not even in the first division, many misses players because they're focused on the top division but some huge talents may be playing in a 3rd division at 16 yo Also some are "invisible" to big clubs because of their expectations and scouting in the best countries like Brazil, France, Germany, England, ... but talent can come from anywhere in the world, and because of having so many different leagues on different levels, which each their "style of football", it's harder to determine if that player could make it in this or that specific league

its hard to spot the next generational talent in football for many reasons the main is that football is played all over the world making the picking pool much larger. you would think that this makes it easier but its the opposite effect where all these professional players growing up all look like generational talent playing against their age group and the mass majority of people that dont make it as pro. To fully see a world class player you have to see them against world class player and for most that doesnt come until you make it as a pro. it comes down to being in the right place at the right time for most of these top talet players. Football isnt like basketball where all the best players play in the aau tornaments and you're seeing these same guys who make it to the nba playing with one another since elementary school.
