So relieved to finally find a good recording of this piece as its this years nyssma solo for me. Its a weird on for sure, but when its played and put together, its quite fun. Excellent performance!

Thank you, I'm glad you found our recording. I remember practicing this for weeks alone in my practice room. Not until I first played it with piano did I grasp the beauty of this piece. Enjoy the process, and feel free to reach out with any questions!

Thank you, Edson! We hope to record more of these 'older' Tenor Saxophone standards as well as some of the newer commissions.

How long did you take to prepare this piece? I have Solo Festival at the beginning of next month and I don’t think I’m going to be able to play through this whole piece with only practicing 2 hours a day. Thank you so much for the recording! I’ve been practicing while listening to you play.

The Anderson Sonata was one of the first pieces I studied in my undergrad. It took me the better part of a semester of consistent practice before I rehearsed with piano and ultimately played it in my jury. Your timeline is challenging for sure and probably not ideal for optimal preparation. That being said, use the imminent deadline to push yourself to see what you are capable of and push your known limitations. These moments prove to ourselves we are capable of more than we first expect. Of course next piece/performance opportunity devise a plan to start earlier to let the process unfold naturally. As you prepare make sure you are truly learning the music (ie able to count all the rhythms, using correct fingerings, studying the piano part). Too often I find students with an imminent deadline learn by ear and miss the opportunity to absorb all the 'musical lessons' a composition like this can provide.

@@christophercharbonneauThanks for your input. I’ve been listening to your performance daily as a practice tool, and I have managed to almost get fully through most of the movements (except the second). I’m sure through with enough practice I will be able to play this fully through. Thank you so much for creating this recording!!
