Duolingo treats each region differently. If I’m in Indonesia, low-middle income country, the unlimited hearts are free. But when I’m in U.S., i have to pay to get that unlimited hearts.

Oh this is a very interesting insight - didn't know that!

It's pretty cool they do that. In Australia unlimited hearts are also a paid feature.

In HUngary we get same treatment as the US, and so unlimited hearts paid feature, or maybe on PC/browser version there arent, on phone i checked in browser(Brave), PC too(Firefox) , there were hearts although when i get free 3 days, i push for progress if RL allows, then if i lose heart not big deal, i have quite some lessons to do the training feature duolingo has

Duolingo should add a Tinder-like tandem option, that makes users find matches of people wanting to learn their language, while explaining theirs own. This might even end up being yet another revenue stream

To be honest, I don't mind becoming a volunteer and letting duolingo monetize on it because it helps more people learning my language.

I used Duolingo a while back. It's helpful when used in conjunction with practice with others. Using it on it's own, however, wasn't helpful. There really is no substitute for actual practice. I could see this potentially being for a classroom environment where the HW is Duolingo assignments and then you practice what you learned in class with your peers.

Let's not kid ourselves. It's a money making company who won't really focus on education other than as a niche to set themselves in. Like most apps. Successful as a business, yes. Successful as education material, a little

I tried Duolingo to learn french for over a year, but I still can't speak it fluently. On other hand, My roommate learned it in about 8 months and got selected in his job because he could speak french. So I guess there is, at some level, It's effectiveness also depends on the absorbing power of it's user. I think I should give it another go.
@noir3712 жыл бұрын
That sounds more like a rarity than a common occurrence. 8 months is extremely fast to become fluent

Duolingo is hit or miss. I’ve been using it for Japanese and it’s a decent starting point for phrases and such, but it completely fails at teaching anything about grammar.

It doesn’t work. Only gives you a false sense of achievement until you need to use it in an actually conversation. The lessons are not how everyday users even speak. All that work for nothing. I feel it’s a big fat waste of time.
