Well English can have 4 or even 5 characters create a single syllable. On average, English is “longer”
@PhoenixClank
@PhoenixClank 3 жыл бұрын
@@JasperTV I think comparing just syllables isn't quite fair here. Consider "strengths": it's a pretty long word, but only one syllable. But I think it's justified being that long, because it contains a lot more phonemes than Japanese syllables allow. Transcribed into Katakana it would be something like ストレングズス.

It's a product of their "alphabet" being syllabary. There aren't very many consonant sounds ending Japanese words, especially compared to _Ingurishu._
@bhull242
@bhull242 2 жыл бұрын
For the record, “o” is only used if the word ends in T or D. Usually, they’d put “u” at the end, like “stoppu”, but the kana corresponding to “tu” and “du” are pronounced “tsu” and “zu”, respectively, so they go with “to” or “do” instead. But yeah, except N, the Japanese language doesn’t have any solo consonants, so they aren’t used to ending a word in a consonant. For English, it’d be like trying to pronounce a word that starts with “ng”.
