Primitive Skills

Күн бұрын

Hello everyone, my name is Duong.
I am 32 years old.
I live in a poor mountainous area of Vietnam.
From a young age, I had to work hard to help my parents.
Difficult life is always around, I work and learn everything from my grandparents and the old people in the village.
Gradually, I mastered the skills.
5 years ago, I decided to live the challenge.
Determined to learn about the primitive way of life, I chose to live in the wilderness, alone.
Where there's no technology and forcing yourself to pass, it feels great!
How about you? Your life is definitely different from mine.
Have fun watching the video!

Digging that drainage pipe gave me some serious early video vibes. I love it! I was surprised to see how few earthworms you had in your soil for how much digging you did. Perhaps you should start an earthworm nursery to help boost your population. They are really important for building soil health for your plants.

Good morning duong. I’m happy to see you work so hard on your farm. You inspire me more and more everyday to get this start for my four sons. I would love to one day see my grandchildren running around a farm their grandfather built with his barehands. I’m sure it brings you much happiness and pride to be doing what your doing. I hope your children are well and I hope your wife is too. Peace and love to you guys!

Your chickens make me smile 😊, they are pretty smart, you start digging and they show up looking for that free meal you unearth while digging, its funny to watch them hovering in close but not to close and how quick they are to seize an opportunity for that free meal. Thanks for the video.

Couple things I might do. Build a worm farm, since it does not freezer there you should be able to breed millions of worms for a low cost and its as easy as adding some feed to the top and pretty much anything really. Use these to make better soil and to give the ground far more worms. They eat dead stuff so really chopped weeds and other stuff would work. Once the rice paddies are built I would put in a lower drain and an upper overflow drain. This way you can remove the water with out having to cut each bank every time. You could also build a bank drag with wood. Be 2 sections in the shape of the bank with some boards to slide along the bottom and hold it togeather. Then back and forth with some dirt in it and tamp as needed. This way you can set it on there and keep them all nice and tidy. This will also help keep them squared up and rather than flatten over time.

I noticed high clay content in your soil...Very good for making many things including levies for the paddies! This year i burnt brush roots and all in high clay soils this precipitated out lime and other minerals very useful for plants! Corn was 5times as productive as where beans etc just because the clay was baked out on the burning brush piles! It broke out the minerals and the clay broke down to its basic components including lime! % times the growth from this slash and burn methods just mixed the ashes and broken down clays which were redish in color with white streaks in the 8 millimeter to 2 centimeter granules they were porous like volcanic rock. When tested the limes and calcium contents where released and throughout the soils! They were soft and dusty with a little ureas and fertilizers corn and beans grew like nothing i have ever seen before! The rice would benefit the same as any other edible crop...I used iron pots ventilated at the bottom about 5 times through out the fallow land that had not been planted for several years loosened the soils and combed out the roots and cooked the roots and bits of soils on a grill top over the burning charges of charcoal....surrounded the burning pot with the green roots as they dried i added them to the top of the grill the roots burned to ash and even the soils around the burning pots where baked...each charge works for about 6 hours as the bushels of roots burned after they cooled simply dumped them in the beds and leveled! As i said the heated and baked soils where very productive!

If I can give you some advice, don't use earthworms as food for fish or other animals. When you find them, dig into the soil where you will put your plants, they are excellent fertilizers of the soil and keep it in good condition.

In most parts of Canada, due to the cold weather we have, many cities have greenhouses where we buy our seedlings. A few, like me, start our tomatoes, cucumbers, squashes (you call them melons), cabbage family, herbs, etc. in late March, indoors, on a window sill or warm spot with sun, and grow them for a few months (usually until mid-May) then we plant them into our gardens. Our growing season - depending on the region - is quite short. Where I live - Central Canada - our season starts mid-May until mid-October, so we only have 4 1/2 months to grow food. On both coasts (Quebec and British Columbia with some parts of Southern Ontario, the growing season is bit longer). BC - February to November, Ontario - close to Toronto - April to November and Quebec - especially cities next to the St-Laurent seaway, early April to late November. We also have diverse weather patterns so that makes for challenging gardening. Some parts of Alberta also have pockets of warm weather but these are challenged by the Chinook Winds - which can be either freezing cold or sweltering heat.
