It is always a joy to hear an interview with David, because of his openness, but it also takes a good interviewer, thanks!

The JUDO reference was great. I've done AiKiDo seriously for 16 years and it has helped my posture, stamina, relaxation (active), breathing, focus/concentration, so I really get what he is saying. Especially getting my shoulders in a correct position, adjusting my right hand techniques from the shoulder to the elbow to the wrist and finally the fingers, that was improved great from AiKiDo. Now long nails and AiKiDo is tricky because you can easily scratch someone in a hurtful way, but I never had good luck with long nails so I keep mine short anyways 😉

That’s a great interview! Thx Miguel! I am glad that he is using forScore as I do. It is a powerful apps, from recently updated features of layers which helps me to manage annotation a lot better. I shared it to my Facebook.

@@MiguelFerreyraGuitar I am happy to see more musician is using the forScore. When I prompting using iPad for reading music and book, people alway tell me they prefer a hardcopy. Yes, of course, me too, but I also like the convenience of electronic version, especially online lesson, it helps me a lot. I brought a electronic version of Giuliani’s complete study recently, although I have its hard copy. Oh sure, I will subscribe it.

Major David Russell fan here. I feel that tone is dependent on pitch. Pure intervals, when accurately tuned, sound immeasurably better than the rough intervals. Tuning is a great and personal art.

Many artists these days use ipad and forscore. It is very useful but I feel somehow their interpretation and performance has a little diminutivefied. If used as a reference it is ok but reading through ....but age also matters and the ability to memorise

Not exactly. We were talking about tension in the body and in the hands. This can cause all sorts of physical issues. Your body is supposed to be without any tension when you play. Regino Sáinz de la Maza said, "Tense guitarists don't last long". Have you subscribed to my channel? I have several videos on the way! I'll say what we're all thinking!!!....... he was good for his time but there are many younger classical guitarists who have sadly left him behind. This is competent playing at best. The trouble with Russell was that his technique was never the strongest and because of those serious technical shortcomings he was always far too nervous in concert. He is not on the level of someone like Julian Bream simply because Russell is far too conservative in his musical tastes. How many memorable pieces have been composed for him?? None at last count! Compared to Bream!!!!!

Give me a break man, I'm not thinking that....Serious technical shortcomings? Competent playing? Geez, if we go by your elevated standards, everyone is a shite player...He just recorded the entire Bach Lute suites and to my trained ears, it sounds more than competent, and he definitely doesn't sounds nervous... And how many memorable pieces have been composed for anyone compared to Bream? Marcin Dylla is a great player...Any pieces composed for him?

Pierre Langedoc, Thanks for watching! David Russell has been one of the most influential guitarists in the past 30- 40 years. Half of the younger top players play Matthias Dammann guitars because of him. The other half play Greg Smallman because they want to emulate John Williams. You mentioned one of my favorite guitarists, Julian Bream. His multi-timber tone, phrasing, and vibrato is out of this world. And Ángel Romero has more technique than John Williams and as much soul as Bream. Be sure to subscribe to my channel.
