Durafly Auto-G2 V2 Gyrocopter 10 December 2023

Life is the sum of our experiences and Sunday revealed a new endeavor for me. My flight conditioning has taught me to coordinate my turns with rudder, aileron, and elevator. That is difficult to modify as this video reveals the the HK Durafly Gyrocopter's . The turns needed to be primarily done with the use of the rudder and only a slight bank or the gyroscopic effect the the spinning rotor takes over. Alex was kind enough to record the flight.

Carbon copy of my first flight with same results. Tough to learn when parts are unavailable though. I'll give it another try when I'm able to repair my G2. VERY helpful video.

I have the v1 and found the blade weakness a real problem. so I made my own just from some balsa trailing edge and spruce leading edges, which I shaped and balanced I also fitted one screw and one cut down cocktail stick so if a blade did strike the ground the cocktail stick snapped. It looks like the V2 does have better ground handling. Whenever I ever hit a blade on the ground. It was during takeoff. BTW, it’s not something I’ve seen on videos, but they loop and roll quite well. Just do it a reasonable height!

Thank you for your input. With the replacement blades out of stock, your solution is one of two I am considering. A fellow flyer has posted his solution of 3D printing. Thank you again. Jim

Life is a learning experiance. I have the Auto G2V2 as well and agree Rudder way more than aileron. My maiden flight went perfectly because JohnVHRC and Model AV8R both had awesome videos and good set ups including blade balancing and radio set up. I give them both credit for putting good content out there. I enjoyed watching your video and hope your new blades get you back flying soon.

JohnVHRC has been my primary resource even before delivery and first flight. He offered follow-up feedback after this flight in regards to losing orientation...Me, disoriented? At 75 that is a possibility...LOL. Thank you for you note. Jim

If you look at my second flight, I do a few steep turns with no problems, what is the gyroscopic affect you speak of? The biggest thing I think I see is people either lose orientation, or dont fly coordinated.

Thank you John and you are correct, I have not seen you second flight. My follow up will have to wait till more rotor blades are available. Me lose orientation? At age 75 that is entirely possible. The model does hold promise and thank your for your response. Jim

Just don't slip up like I did and try and "bank and yank". The results speak for themselves. Jim
