It’s funny how things go in circles..When I started all we had were alum mags..They could stay loaded..But if you drop them a couple times they would get stuck in mag wells and get issues with dented feed lips, followers getting stuck from dents in mag bodies etc… So then we went to pmags..You could drop them all day and they would bounce..Some one said they got split polymer..(I never had crack in over 13 years)So now everyone goes back to alum..That said I buy whatever I find deals on..You can’t go wrong with milspec alum, pmag lancer..

I think we all just like to have options and variety but, we want the options and variety to be just as reliable with different pros and cons between the options. That way all bases can be covered. That, and consumers get bored and do have a tendency to repeat past trends as new consumers enter the market and old consumers leave it.

@@nelsonr1467 I find it hard to believe that the military would go with a more expensive option that would end up being inferior of a cheaper option... Yes, the military can be very spending conscious and cut corners with tons of different milspec "standards", but to spend MORE resources on an inferior product, design or process is practically non existent. @Jon M. - Alot of spec op teams seem to have moved to using more and more duramag specific magazines for their multi-platform & task rifles. Actually found this out through an ex operator and his team that was touring across the country giving 2 day training courses for pistol fighting and carbine platforms. I had maybe been to 2 or 3 specific classes and 4 or 5 different training courses and I had learned more in that two day period than I had in over almost 10 years time. If you ever get the opportunity to train with any legitimate training group that employees operators of any kind, jump on that opportunity asap. Those guys are a completely different breed of human.

I wish Duramage would make 30 round stick mags for the 45ACP Thompson, 30 or 40 round mags for the Mini-14 and Mini-30, and 30 or 40 round steel mags for the AR-10 (308). It would also be great if they made 30 round mags for the CETME 308 caliber rifle. I'm sure there will be a huge need for magazines like these.

I got a great deal on a 20 pack of SOLGW stamped duramags. They took the place of my okay surefeed mags in my plate carrier after listening to an ex operator at a really cool 2 day carbine course I had the pleasure of attending. He was so passionate about his experience with a multitude of different magazines and sang duramags name at a point where he considered no other option. He also stated that for every new magazine you purchase to take them apart and hit both sides of the mags spring with a very quick dry lube pass. Idk if this truly is causing any beneficial return whatsoever but now for every new magazine I purchase it gets hit with a quick aerosol spray of Otis dry lube and then after about 45 minutes I'll pat dry any point of the spring that may look "wet" or a little too shiny.

No he didn’t. Duramags use metal half as thin as surefeed and d&h, are built crappier ( yiu can just see the bad build quality how the 2 half’s barely line up properly.) the fucking things bow out slightly when loaded, and duramags don’t load in and drop free from mag wells properly because of their shitty build quality. This dude I don’t believe ever ran any courses or he’s know how absolutely garbage duramags are and how cheap and flimsy they are or the fact they don’t hardly take a beating at all. The dude who told you to switch is an idiot. Surefeeds are quite literally the best on the market are are trusted by Leo and military and surefeed were chosen for military contracts based on how durable they were and how well they feed etc. don’t switch to duramags , your literally going backwards.

I've seen that this is rather hard to replicate and can only reliably be done so on a fully loaded magazine that's already seen its fair share of rounds and is dropped specifically feed lips pointed down towards hard cement from anywhere between 4-8 feet. That exact scenario would be EXTREMELY hard to actually happen in a real world context. If you're dropping any kind of fully loaded magazine at such distances while fighting over a hard surface then you've found yourself in one wild ass, Jon wick high flying, action packed situation! Also, if you take a steel or aluminum mag and do the same test you'll find that yes they don't split or lose retention they will now refuse to seat in any magwell.

@@filippocorti6760 they are just build poorly and arent durable despite the name lol. Like I said much better off with d&h or surefeeds. They only get good reviews of KZbinrs shooting with them on bench rest shooting at the range. Sure they do the job but their are much better metal mags on the market to not even waste time or energy on duramags. Surefeed/okay, d&h, Hk, brownelles. Duramag uses thinner steel/aluminum and they look and feel like they are literally slapped together. This causes issues with rounds not fitting properly if the two mag halves aren’t properly centered and also causes mag drop/insertion issues. Duramags overall are just poorly made and use thinner metal to make them. So just dropping an empty one and they are bad and they don’t take a lot of abuse.

I only have one piece of advice to metal mag manufacturers: follow DD's example and do +2 mag capacity so that people can load a full 30 or 20 in your mags with reliable feeding. You might consider ribbing your metal mags so that they hold up like the better polymer mags. It's because of these issues I went PMAG M3/Lancer/DD over SS Duramags.
These are reliable AR 15 Mags.
