I bought ASC magazines because the company that makes the 7.62x39 AR upper that I recently purchased actually recommended ASC mags. The 30 round magazines barely fit into the mag well and are not cycling properly. They are either double feeding or not feeding at all. The 20 round magazines work a little better BUT just a little better and this is almost 4 years after this video.

Same here I bought a Bear Creek Arsenal upper in 762X39 And a brand new 30 and 10 round ASC mag and nothing but issues with both of them out at the range today double feeding failure to feed. Some of the bullets were even tilted downwards in the magand would get stuck halfway through the 30 rounder they are complete garbage I think

@@akclan33 Yes, my upper is from Bear Creek as well. I had the same problems that you did with those magazines. I wrote to Bear Creek and they said they will be looking into it. I got some C-Product magazines and they work great. No adjusting or tinkering, etc., they worked great right out of the box. Also, D&H mags work great as well. Surprisingly, even a ProMag magazine that I got worked great right out of the box. The only mags I had problems with were the ASC magazines. Because Bear Creek had recommended ASC, I ordered 4 magazines (not cheap) before I even received my upper. I wanted to be able to use the upper as soon as it arrived. Yeah, I used it....... mostly single shot, lol. It wasn't funny at the time though. Anyway, the C-Products are great and the D&H are very good as well for my BCA 7.62x39 upper. Good luck friend.

@@akclan33 It's crazy that they have been making them for so long and they still can't get it right. I was really dissapointed. Some people have mentioned how they tinkered with them and made them work. That's OK but we paid for a product that's supposed to work. If I wanted to "fix" something I would have bought some used junk at a garage sale or a gun show for a couple of dollars. You're going to love the the upper once you get properly functioning mags. I really like Bear Creek and I hope they stop recommending those magazines. Good luck brother. 👍

@@kc2shw just got back from range and had one heinous misfeed but other than that single malfunction they shot fine enough-3x per mag (4 mags of 30rds/ea). Was excited and didn’t snap a pic of the affected round. The feed lip on the mag prevented a smooth pick up by the BCG and put 4 gouges on the case. It was a toughy but performed better than expected, tbh.

Best mags for 556 are Lancer, they hold 31 instead of 30, you are not supposed to load all 31; its done to increase their spring life and they also have metallic lips and one whole high grade plastic body

Old comment, but thanks for clarifying that. 👍 And here I hadn't been 'fully' loading my Lancers, maybe only loading 28 or 29 rounds, thinking I was saving the spring life when it was already designed with that mindset in...well, mind.

Don't buy ASC mags, you will be lucky if you find some that work 100% reliably, instead buy DURAMAG, from C Products Defense, they are the best mags I have tried, for any rifle caliber that they manufacture. The metal is harder, the coating on the metal is tough as nails, not even a blade can scratch it off, and the mag works 100%, specially with the 7.62x39 cartridge.

Apparently all these 7.62x39 AR mags have issues, some more than others. A couple of things I’ve done to mine, but still not 100% reliable, is to straighten the top spring loop, it’s kinked by the manufacturer for some reason and I noticed that all AK mags as well as the C Products 7.62x39 mag which seems to work a bit better than ASC mags, have their mag springs looking the same basically, so the ASC mag spring I took and flattened that last loop at the top which was kinked up in the mid section, that helped a bit reduce the nose dive of cartridges in the mag. The other things I did was apply a thin coat of grease to the inner walls of the mag, which made the moving up and down of the follower much easier, it helped a lot, but it’s not perfect yet. I’ve not done this yet, but my next option is to take a polishing wheel and with polishing compound, polish to a shine the top section of the mag inner walls, around the feeding lips and all the high points of the ridges running vertically inside of the mag walls, that should allow the cartridges to move up into position much easier and should also allow the stripping of cartridges off the feeding lips to be easier also, we will see, that will probably be my last attempt at fixing new mags out of the factory, incredible that we have to do that to a brand new product to make it do a very basic function.
@kc2shw
@kc2shw 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds you like have experienced a few more issues with yours. Now you stated ak and ar mags. With the ak issue is it the gun that doesn't like certain mags or you have gone through the testing of different mags and see what works best? With the ar mags I found that just the burrs on the edges of the mag insides need to be taken down to remove the burrs made during manufacturing. Update as you get it squared away.
@cubaniton74
@cubaniton74 4 жыл бұрын
@@kc2shw I was only comparing and checking the AK47 mag springs for reference, to see if I could imitate or duplicate somehow the AK springs. AK's have no issues with mags unless it is a very crappy mag. Talking about the burrs inside the 7.62x39 AR mags, if they are the ones causing the binding of the rounds not allowing them to move up into position to be stripped by the BCG, then just sand down a bit the very back of the follower, the part that rides inside the channel where the burrs would be found, it would be a lot easier to sand down a bit a plastic follower than to chase burrs inside a curved metal magazine. I knew that the follower was getting caught inside the mag at times, and I thought it was because of the pronounced curvature of the mag and the follower did not have enough space to turn that sharp curve, and that might be the case, but if there are burrs like you found, then the binding would be much worse. I will keep messing with the mag until I find a way to make it more reliable, one thing I did to the buffer spring was to replace it with a .308 carbine buffer spring, that way the stronger buffer spring will strip into the chamber any round that wanted to hang in the mag lips. The stronger buffer spring also pushes into the chamber the cartridges more violently, preventing them from hanging on the ramp of the barrel, and it might also reduce the felt recoil also.
@cubaniton74
@cubaniton74 4 жыл бұрын
@@kc2shw You know what would be extremely helpful on your side, if you could do a short video on the Pro-Mag that works for you, taken apart and slowly showing the shape of the follower, the shape of the mag spring and its orientation inside the mag, that would be very helpful, because by looking at the follower, one could imitate the shape of it and mod it to run just as well as the one you have.

@@cubaniton74 hey brother. Did you find that the 308 buffer spring helped? If so, did it make it 100% "fixed"? I'm having every single round I fire, jam the next round. Not nose diving (yet). But it is turning the nose up and jamming in the upper. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! I have a bear creek 762×39 rear charge, with 20rd acs mags. I've replaced the buffer weight with the heavier one thinking that would work but no joy.
@cubaniton74
@cubaniton74 2 жыл бұрын
@@adamwhitfield5571 If the rounds are turning nose up and jamming in the upper, it could be that the mag lips are just a bit too open, tap them close with a hammer, two light taps at a time, and try hand cycling to see if it helps, there is the risk of closing the lips too much, and causing other issues, so tap the lips close a few taps at a time and test until mag feeds fine. My best advice to you is to buy new C-Product-Defense mags (DURAMAG), they are the best I have tried, their special coating is super tough and so is the mag steel; one of the issues I found with the asc mags is that the steel it's made of is a bit soft, and the coating used comes off easily, causing more issues than the benefits it's supposed to provide. The special coating on the DURAMAGs of C Products Defense, is super tough, you can try to scratch it with a blade and nothing will happen to it, try one of those mags and you will thank me later, stop wasting time with the asc mags. I never got to try the 308 buffer tube springs, but I am sure it will only help, and in the rare case that it could cause issues from cycling too fast, then pull back the charging handle on an empty chamber and leave the spring compressed for a few weeks to break it in a bit. But seriously, buy one DURAMAG from C Products Defense and try it, you will be happy you did.
