My RPMS are all over the place as well at idle ranging from 620 and jumping to 720rpm , I'm worried my CP3 may be on its way out too

I have a 2016 lml Duramax silverado 3500hd 6.6 diesel .. I have a tunning with 200hp for 2 years now ... I haven't added a lift pump yet It is fully deleted Yesterday I accepted very fast to go around a car And the truck cut off like if it was out of gas I try turning it back on It cranks but don't turn on If my FUEL PRESSURE RESONATOR WAS BAD OR BURN WILL IT STOO TRUCK FROM TURNING ON ? Or will it be the cp4 needs to be replaced ? Any help
@FixedVaneDuramax4 жыл бұрын
Michael Guzman I wont try and be an expert here but here’s my opinion based on that. I’d be pretty concerned that your cp4 just gave up the ghost and took out your fuel system along with it. Its a known issue that we also know is being taxed to supply extra fuel and it could have finally worn out. Hopefully it hasn’t pushed shrapnel through the rails and injectors but that is know to happen on the LMLs. If you have a local trusted shop get them to diagnose it for you for sure, hopefully that isn’t the case.

Quick question. I have a 2004 lb7 that has a pulse while driving. I only notice it when I run my bullybog on the 150 tune and it only does it while driving. It’s very noticeable at around 45 mph, you can physically watch the rpm gauge fluctuate. I have not hooked it up to a scanner yet but after watching this video I thought I would ask your opinion. The truck has ppe boost valve, 5% injectors, fass 165, sump kit, factory fuel filter changed to cat filter, 3in down pipe, straight piped stock exhaust pipe. Let me know what you think and if you come up with anything. Thanks for your time ✌🏼
@FixedVaneDuramax5 жыл бұрын
Hmm that sounds interesting, I've never see a truck do something like that while actually at speed! Couple things: Has it always done that when you have it in that big tune or just started doing that recently? If it has always done it then it could be something in the Bullydog causing the injectors to stay open too long or something like that (kind of a guess I'm no expert here) If it just started doing it recently I would try changing your filters before anything else, then if that doesnt help see if a buddy has an edge cts monitor that you can watch your fuel rail pressure versus your desired fuel rail pressure. It could be your Fuel Pressure Regulator starting to go out, but it seems odd that its only in the big tune, which still points it back at the tuner itself. I have no experience with tuners except for full efi live tuning myself, but I know they have been on the market for years and years. I'm sure you have already but maybe do a google search to see if anyone else has had this issue with a Bullydog as well.

@jacobhohmann55842 жыл бұрын
Late response but if you haven’t figured it out you could be pushing too much fuel from your lift pump.. the truck will lope if the lift pump psi is too high. At idle it should be around 8 I believe

Decent video.....been chasing a rough idle on an LLY (shakes in park / neutral, but not in gear) and is NOT the typical Surging idle that is also common. I've checked Desired vs Actual fuel rail pressure with EFI live and it seems steady. Think you had another vid where you see a shaking cup in the cup holder....that's pretty much where mine is at, but the Actual FRPressure seems right in line with Desired FRP so I'm a little confused. Have a reoccurring PENDING MAF and IAT code that I'm trying to sort out. Other than that truck runs great. How has yours been since this vid?
@FixedVaneDuramax5 жыл бұрын
Rough idle can be the biggest pain the butt to diagnose. Since this video the truck has ran very well, it has also been retuned since which actually helped a lot, there was an issue with the ECM not being tuned 100% correctly for the lbz cp3/fpr. I am assuming your truck is tuned, not sure who your tuner is but if you can, take a data log of it idling and then running on the road and have him/her look at it, an experienced tuner should be able to pick out the fluke pretty quickly. Sounds like you have multiple air sensing issues that could be part of it?

Hey man great video very helpful. I’ve got an 01 LB7 and I keep getting a put in limp mode and throwing a p0093 large fuel leak. My fuel pressure also jumps on my tuner as yours did before you changed your FPR.. runs great but under tow and trying to heavy accelerate does it every time.
@FixedVaneDuramax4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, that's a new one for me...looking online guys generally point to either the FPRV or the CP3 itself getting weak. Essentially the code means that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is commanding a certain pressure and the rail is receiving a much lower pressure than what is commanded. I'm not sure how to tell you to diagnose between the 2 potential culprits, but replacing or blocking off the FPRV (Fuel Pressure Relief Valve) is a heck of a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the CP3 so that is where I would start. Could be as simple as that valve malfunctioning and allowing too much fuel to return to the tank, therefore not allowing the pump to build the commanded pressure.
@chrissutcliffe47124 жыл бұрын
I put in the FPRV and didn’t seem to change anything. Might have to bite the bullet and take it in to the shop

Question on the intake horn. I got an HSP horn and got a stock gasket but can't keep it lined up while putting the horn on. Did you use a gasket? Trying to decide if I should use it or not. Thank you
@FixedVaneDuramax4 жыл бұрын
Brad Vickers The horn has 2 slotted holes for the bottom 2 bolts right? Hold the gasket on with those two bolts and slide the horn into position and rotate it onto the bolts. Then lock it into position with the top bolt. Thats how I’ve always done them anyways. The slots are meant to make it much easier to assemble/disassemble.
@99chev604 жыл бұрын
Fixed Vane Duramax the HSP one I got only had one slotted hole. I'm not sure why. All the older videos I seen have 2 slotted holes
@FixedVaneDuramax4 жыл бұрын
Brad Vickers That’s definitely odd, there’s no point in only one hole lol you cant rotate it. Well my suggestion then would be to spread a thin layer of rtv against one of the faces, and use that to “stick” the gasket to it in place. Then it should resist movement when you’re installing the horn. And maybe help seal it better. Ive used purely rtv to seal them before but prefer a gasket if possible.

This is the part number for an LBZ FPR, which is different than the standard lb7 one. If you use a LBZ FPR you will need to have the truck retuned to match. So short answer, no make sure you get an lb7 one for a standard application. I bought this one from Lincoln Diesel Specialties. Man sounds like you know a lot about duramaxs. I have a question, I think I need a lift pump for my 03 Chevy 2500hd lb7. At wide open throttle after about 25mph it loses most of its power and then it comes back after about 5 secs of not letting off the throttle. Or is that another problem you think?
@FixedVaneDuramax5 жыл бұрын
I'll be the first to tell you I'm not an expert or mechanic, just learned a few things after having 3 of them(2 lb7s and 1 lly). So I can think of a few things on this off the top of my head: It definitely could be caused by not having a lift pump, the stock cp3 has a big job on its hands to pull fuel from the tank and then pressurize it, especially if the truck is tuned and it is trying to keep the pressure up while the injector are holding open for longer to push more fuel into the cylinders. 1.First off, is the truck tuned? If so what level are you running it at? If possible, try swapping it back to the stock tune and see how it responds. 2.Next thought, if the truck is tuned, the ECM could be asking for more fuel pressure (in the rail) than what the OEM stock cp3 can provide, generally causing the truck to throw a fuel rail "limp mode" code. But if you aren't getting the code that probably isnt it. 3.Is it only at around 25 mph or is it 25 mph and above? It could be a transmission issue, the allison asks for a defuel during the shift points, it helps limit the torque for longevity. If it is taking longer to shift the defuel could be holding out as well? 4.I forget what exact rpm, but the OEM lb7 CP3 is rpm limited. I want to say at 3600 rpm or something like that it will essentially back off the pressure until it falls lower, then will come back up if you keep your foot in it. The only time I ever got my truck to do that on my original cp3 I was at 120+ mph though, I thought I grenaded something. Not sure why your truck would be doing that, but it sounds similar. Not sure if that is helpful at all, if it is tuned and you can switch it back to stock easily that would be the first thing to try. If that does not fix it, the best thing to do would be to take a data log of the truck and try to recreate the issue(if you happen to have an edge cts or cts2 that can be done very easily, if not, go to your local diesel shop and ask them for help.) The edge produces a file that can be opened up on Excel and mapped, or send it to your tuner and have them take a look at it (if its tuned.) I am interested to hear if you get it diagnosed, let me know if I can try and help!

I’ve been looking at cp3 pumps, there’s some rebuilt ones on eBay from shops that have sold hundreds of them, they are half the price ($550) of the ones from napa, anyone know if they’re any good? Hate to have to go back in there a month later, thanks.
@FixedVaneDuramax5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I have a great answer for you Shane, I personally bought a remanned lbz pump from a certified bosch dealer, I had some connections so I got it for dealer pricing ($600) and 2 years in it has yet to fail (except for the FPR apparently from this video.) I would be wary of buying one off ebay personally, just as it is an expensive part, and if it fails not only is it a pain to swap, but can have bad consequences for the downstream injectors as well. Just my 2 cents, but if you find a shop on there that looks promising, maybe research them and give them a call directly. Take a look at lincolndieselspecialties.com as well, they are known as one of the best go to places for injectors for fair pricing, they can most likely help you out as well.

Surging is the most common symptom of the FPR going out. If the truck is hazing white/blue smoke at idle when warmed up, that is generally a sign of injectors nearing end of life.

To be clear the FICM is still there and controlling the fuel injection, it is just not being fuel cooled as designed from the factory. Not much of a real benefit beside that it allows you to remove several of the hard lines crossing over the valley of the engine bay. Personally I ran this truck without FICM for several years as a DD with no issues before I retired it to a competition only/weekend driver.
