Working on my 2002 LB7 right now. Literally just used an open end wrench to pull my injectors up and it was easy. I placed the open end of the wrench (used a 17mm and 19mm) upside down underneath the little arm bar ends (sorry not a mechanic and have no idea what those things are called) and pushed down on the wrench and they all popped up. The two front injectors I had the wrench on the right side of the injector and the two rear injectors I had to put the wrench on the left side because of wiring and the firewall. Very easy. As far as the sleeves. One popped out with one of the injectors which led me to KZbin and here I am. Thank you for making this video. Looks like I'm heading to Harbor Freight tonight. If I'm digging this deep into this job, I'm checking everything. This video will not only save me a lot of time but lots of $$$ so I don't buy the $200 puller made for this. Thank you again and greetings from Utah. Choose the right everyone.

Nice going, The injectors usually come out easy. I totally agree that you should do the cups too since you've gone down that far. Be sure to use the correct sealant when you re-install the cups and take your time. As you know, it's a lot of work to pull everything apart again. One other huge tip. I highly suggest using new factory Chevy injector lines and quality line gaskets. I've used aftermarket lines and they started to fail one by one. After the third one, I just replaced them all with OEM. unfortunately they are about $100 each. Ouch. Only other choice would be to have them professionally cleaned if they are in good shape.

@@notoriousJPG I'm planning on ordering new (not refurbished) everything. New Bosch injectors, new OEM fuel lines (is this what you meant by injector lines?), new sleeves, new glow plugs (since I'm already there might as well just change them now), all new gaskets, all new seals (two seals in my valve covers were shot and leaking), new fuel return lines, all new bolts for everything (I found 3 stripped bolts just getting down to the injectors) plus washing and cleaning everything so it's nice and shinny when I put it all back together. Also thinking about ripping off the turbo, cleaning out and replace with all new OEM parts just it's nice and clean as well. 6 of my 8 injectors were clogged up, almost all the fuel lines (injector lines?) were rusted, pitted and guaranteed leaking and 2 leaking valve cover seals. So hopefully this motor will run better than ever once I have it back together. I'm the 2nd owner, bought it with 108,000 miles. It has just under 120,000 now after 3 years of ownership. I'm not a mechanic. The only experience I have is doing oil changes so this is quite the chore for me. Lots of KZbin videos are helping make this project pretty easy just time consuming. Thank you again for making this video. You've helped at least 1 person in this world who really needed the help and guidance.

Yep, that's what I'm talking about " fuel supply lines" . Sounds like you're on the right track. Although I'd inspect the cups for any damage. Good chance you won't need to replace any of them unless they got marred from removal.

Outstanding!... I’ve been stressing over how to pull the cups. I figure it’s about my luck that, if I don’t at least replace the o rings, I’ll disturb the cups just enough to cause a coolant leak and ruin the the whole job. It would really suck to have tear it all apart again to do what ya shoulda done the first time.

I inspected each one for any defects, marring, or scratches to the seating surface, then ended up replacing 3 of them.

Garden hose and Harbor Freight. What a combo! Well done, sir 😄👍👍. Gotta ask, why did you decide to pull the cups? Most sources I've seen say, if they stay in, leave'em be.

Well thanks! It's a lot of work to get this far in the project. I just wanted to cover all the bases so I was assured I wouldn't have to pull it apart again because of a coolant leak. Compared to the entirety of the project it takes very little time for this assurance. Be sure if you remove the cups you use the correct lock tight / sealant on the mating surface during re-assembly.

I've done injectors 3 times in 165000mi. The last set was on me, $4300 in jan of 2018. Question; will they keep going bad every 50k mi. or are they now made to last? (2004 LB7). Thanks
@notoriousJPG
@notoriousJPG 5 жыл бұрын
Only use factory Bosh injectors, they have been updated and will last much longer. BE SURE TO USE NEW GM INJECTOR LINES WHEN INSTALLING. small debris in the lines will cause premature injector failure. there is no easy or good way to thoroughly clean the lines before re-installing.

I have a issue, one of the injectors the stud broke that the 2 wires bolt on to from being over tightened.. question is, can I just use of of my old injectors top end and just swap it on to the new one? Or is there a chance of it being different?

Great video! Just my luck you made it not long after I did my injectors. Brilliant solution to a cheap cup removal tool! Fucking kudos dude! I used simply my old feed line and just thread it on the injectors and wiggled them out. No need to cut them. Great video man.

Could a bad cup cause diesel fuel in the oil?
@notoriousJPG
@notoriousJPG 8 жыл бұрын
Not likely, a bad cup would let water in the fuel or oil. Diesel in the oil is most likely from return line seals or bad injectors.
@jrad5491
@jrad5491 6 жыл бұрын
More likely than coolant in the oil, a loose or bad cup will let compression leak into the coolant system over pressuring it and causing coolant to leak from the overflow tank. That's what mine is doing now about a month after injectors were replaced. I hired the wrong guy to work on my truck.
@notoriousJPG
@notoriousJPG 5 жыл бұрын
No it could cause water in the oil though. fuel in the oil would be a injector line issue, bad injector, or most likely injector line seals under the valve cover.

Pretty much just as easy to screw your high pressure line back onto the injector and give it a tug. All that’s holding the injectors into the cups is an O-Ring
Duramax injector install and valve adjustment.
