Duramax Starts then Dies

Thanks for sharing the video! I have a 2005 duramax. Starts up and randomly stalls,push the prime bulb a couple times and starts right up and runs for about 30 minutes then stalls. When this happens the check engine light comes on and the fuel gauge stops working. Disconnect battery,reconnect battery and no more check engine light and fuel gauge works again. Runs for another 15/30 minutes then same issue again. I replaced the filter,filter housing and 2small fuel lines to motor. Any advice? Shops around me are 3 weeks out and this is my only vehicle,250,000 miles.

Hahaha! The crazy stuff auto techs encounter. Once, I had a "no start" tow-in on a vehicle after fuel pump was replaced by another shop. Found a red shop rag that was left inside the tank!

Stanadyne, amsoil, lucas, all use a paper gasket in there cap.

My 06 Duramax just started doing the start then stop thing, I don't use additives with those little caps. I use a big jug of OptiLube for the additive. @@crossroadgaragellc

My lb7 I changed the FPR because it had a looping idle now it starts but for like 3 seconds then dies any help

Mr. Untouchable I had the same problem a couple years back, 3 mechanics and still they couldn’t figure it out. Finally I got a drunk shade tree mechanic and he found the problem like in 2 minutes. It was a 10 cent o-ring under the fuel filter housing. I went ahead and changed all the O-rings it had under the housing like 6 of them for about $30 they make a kit for that, it was real easy to do and you can find a video online at A1 auto parts that shows you how. And get a metal or brass bleeder screw valve, stay away from the plastic ones

If the idle is like that check your low side vacuum, should be between 3-5 inches, sounds to me like it may be ising prime, like the other guy said, the filter housings are known to leak.

@@juanitoblogs9724 did you ever figure it out? Mine does the same thing but it doesn’t die as much anymore. Rebuilt the pump and it did nothing. It also smokes sometimes

Hey guys pretty cool video I’m interested in this similar truck the guy had replaced Please advise 2011 Silverado 3500hd dually LML Duramax 4x4. Truck will run for a few minutes and then die. I have tried everything I can think of to repair the truck but have not figured out what is causing it to die. Truck has new batteries, new fuel filter housing, fuel filter, fuel rails, fuel pressure regulator, and new coolant tank.

I have a 2011 that will lose prime sometimes, seems to do this more on colder days if that helps. I rebuilt the filter head already and still doing it. I was thinking about replacing the check port valve next. Any other ideas?
