"Beautiful Colours" is an unreleased song, written by the five original band members during the Astronaut sessions. This video is a montage using live fan footage and DD onstage visuals.

That lil masterpiece was criminally omited from the Astronaut album.Will never forgive them!So wonderful melody and lyrics.Could stand as a single on its own!How could they?Also another fab out take was Salt in the rainbow.Ialso liked "Silent icy river" b side to "What happens tommorrow?"C'mn guys.Give them a chance in a future deluxe edition.

This may be the best "unreleased song" I've ever heard. I first heard it when I saw their first reunion tour in the early 2000s. The only reason I own a copy is that I somehow bought a cd from Russia that Duran Duran had sent out to all the record companies hoping to get a record contract. It contains "Beautiful Colors", early versions of songs from "Astronaut" and a handful of decent songs. I often play it for Duran Duran fans and they always love it. The band recently hinted that they might actually release their scrapped album "Reportage" that was recorded after "Astronaut". When Andy Taylor left, they scrapped the entire album and started over, creating "Red Carpet Massacre".
@darrenmatson73612 жыл бұрын
Well that was a huge mistake 😳

I will be the first in line for Reportage. Astronaut was stunning and if there is more like this out there... I WANT IT !!!
@kyachdistent13012 жыл бұрын
It's all 'may'. I NEVER believe artists when they pretend they're going to release things locked away in the record company cellar. Kim Wilde's the same about her 1998 unreleased album "The Promise". It's just something for them to say. Only Siobhan Fahey of Shakespears Sister had the pluck to harass London Records for her 1996 unreleased album, and after a lengthy court battle over a number of years, finally succeeded, but she would have won by now. Neither Kim or Duran have even tried and even if they did, I imagine the labels would successfully shut down any attempts and they'd let it.
@clonmult8 ай бұрын
There's been a slight improvement in the relationship with Andy, with him being involved in the latest album - and that could well result in Reportage being completed. Although I'm doubtful, and we'll be continually frustrated by so much quality unreleased stuff remaining unreleased.

AGREED 100% Mate!! Awesome DD Tune!! They Just "HAVE IT"!! SIMON LaBon is a Top shelf Song Writer as well!! I know they all Collaborated on the Astronaut Album,, and I Was SO Lucky to Catch them Live in Nashville TN. On the Astronaut Tour with all 5 Original Guys!! Why the Hell Andy Taylor Did not Stay On Permanently like Roger & John is Still a Big WTF is this Guy's Deal anyway?? He's Selfish and out for is on Fame and is Alot like David Lee Roth! They both Laugh at there own Amusing Comments! Narcissistic Behavior!! I Think it SUX that after The Astronaut Reunion they Didn't Bring Warren Cucorillo Back who not only is a Classically Trained Musician at Juilliard I Think! But, He Wrote "Ordinary World" Definitely the Music for it, which Brought Them Back!! When they Received a Lifetime Achievement Award, The First Thing Nick Roades, Another CLASS ACT and just a Cool Humble Bloke, said was "I want to take this opportunity To Give Sincere THANKS & Gratitude to Warren Cucorillo who is One of the main reasons we are Getting this Award, and he is Such a Talented Musician, and I will always be Eternally Grateful to him for his Contribution!! That Was SO Awesome of Nick to Say that cause he's Absolutely Right On! He Wears the Glam , New Romantic make up that so many guys in Bands from that Early 80's era did. He's got the Jacket and Tie Sharp dressed but he's Not about Hamming it up for Self Attention he's a Great Keyboard Player and Again has a Humble, Modest Attitude and like Simon, John, & Roger Cares about Giving Every Audience they play to there Money's Worth Over a 4 Month Tour Every Night almost!! Ive Always Loved The Band and Simon & Nick kept the Ball Rolling and NEVER gave up even when they were playing Small venues to Small Audiences to People in there late 30s or 40's but Now they have Picked up Fans of the Next Generation with the last few Album's Collaborating with everyone from Nile Rogers to Lindsey Lohan whom they had to go pick up even one day to record in an LA Studio! Funny Story but YES! This Song from the Astronaut Album Should have been Released as a Single!! Great Sound!! Gosh I wish they Could Bring Warren back on Guitar!! But, One of The Greatest Bands of All time!! I was in College in the Early to Mid 1980's and was a DJ spinning Punk, New Wave Alternative Bands from the UK at my College Radio Station and I Played Tracks from the First Album & The RIO album which I Loved just about every Song on Each Record! Every 3 hour shift per week You could Bet Money u wud hear "Planet Earth" to "Hold Back the Rain" "Last Chance on the Stairway" "Friends of Mine" GOSH!! Duran Duran Was "The Real Shit" They were "the Shit", Again, They Just Had it!! Had and Still have All that it Takes to be a GREAT BAND that Stands the Test of Time!! Sorry for A MUCH TOO LONG Reply But, This is Just GREAT MUSIC from GREAT Artists that Warrents a Long Comment!! I'd would Love to Meet the 4 guys for 15 secs. Just to Tell them & Thank them for for all the Great Music! No Asking for Autographs just let them know how they make people Love Music just listening to Songs like this One!! Thank You!!✌️❤️ ☮️ Peace and Love to All! Cheers! & God Bless!!✌️🙏🙏😀

@@johnscala7870 Wow, you are lucky to have been able to be a college DJ at that time in the early 80s! I was a pre-teen when DD got huge in the US with Hungry Like the Wolf on MTV and always liked many different genres of music, but didn't know anything about college radio until the early 90s when I was in college, and they were playing the Cure and the Smiths and bands like that alot.
How did this not make the cut? I guess it’s testament to remarkable quality of this band’s output.

These guys have probably 100 songs that are unreleased have been recorded over the years for various albums. You can’t put out everything your record that’s just the nature of writing and recording. most bands write between 30 and 40 songs for each record and record between 18 and 25 for every 12 track album. Lots of stuff gets left behind

I had read back in the day when they did Astronaut there were a few songs that did not make that album and were never released. Thanks for sharing this one, it actually is not bad and it fits the theme of the music that they put together for the Astronaut album. Of course after that album they started losing band members again so it was a one and done for the five which has always been their best lineup of all the different members they have had, although I have been surprised that they kept four together after this album for so long.
