Thank you so much for your prompt and insightful reply. I was leaning toward C&T and I appreciate the confirmation. BTW, your wonderful videos helped me come to that conclusion, so thanks for posting them. While other viewers were focusing on the engines in your videos, I was spying the scenery throughout. Ha ha. Again, thank you.

Engine 478 is a K-28 2-8-2 built by ALCO in 1923. The equipment on the front is the air pump. All the engines at the D&SNG are outside frame steam engines, that means that the wheels are on the inside of the frame while the side rods and counter weights are on the outside. They were built for power not speed. Most of the engines have Ex. D&RGW 5 chime whistles.

Personally 473 and 478 are my favorites. The K-28 did find themselves more on Passenger trains in their day of the 3 classes K-36 and K-37

Excellent! There's nothing like a steam locomotive working it's consist up a grade. The fireman kept a good, clean fire going. One can see as each shovel-load of coal goes on. Thanks!

Thats awsome!!! Good info to know. i love learning about steam engines and their american history. They look realy cool. At the big speeds they go on here look realy cool! 20 mph is tops and shoot looks cool to me. I bet they can pull more than a standard train built for speed.

Thanks for this bit of trivia - apparently both Baldwin and Alco adapted standard-gauge 2-8-2's for the D&RGW's 3'-0" tracks by shifting the roadwheels inboard of the frame. Lima would have needed a similar measure for a 2-8-4, but not for the far smaller Class D Shay.

I'm doing the D&S too! I haven't actually been on it yet (since it's in Colorado and I live in Ohio), but I've seen it in documentaries, and it looks beautiful. I can't wait!

I know I am late but, C&TS is longer yet only one way (bus back) D&SNG is round trip. Do you want original facilities and water tanks and diverse scenery (C&TS) with replica cars, or the original stock and a replica roundhouse with great museum and a wonderful town which the train passes through. D&SNG. Love the old cars and different service choices and D&SNG. I was a huge C&TS fan, but know after 4 visits (each) lean towards the D&SNG.
Awsome video! What are the main differences in these 2 trains? i can see some differences like the whistles are different sounds and the 478 has all that extra steam equipment on the front. The other looks like more of a low profile train. I can tell these trains dont hound the big round wheels like the bigger trains have. I love how the whisltes arnt to high pitched and anooying like some trains and diesel horns are annoying on a diesel train.

Plus, the K-28s are smaller than the K-36s, and have longer boilers.

There is a saying that the D&S is Disneyland trying to be a railroad and the C&T is a railroad trying to be Disneyland. In other words if you want more authentic ride out in the middle of nowhere do the C&T. Plus C&T is more of a museum with a large yard full of narrow gauge cars. I would do the C&T.

Can anyone here advise me? We will be in Colorado in late June and have time and money to ride ONLY the Durango-Silverton OR the Cumbres-Toltec. I know both rides are spectacular. Which should we choose?

To reduce Environmental pollution, Steam Loco should be replaced by Diesel Loco
@baldwinloco12 Жыл бұрын
Steam locomotives are run for historical reasons, they do not produce that much pollution. Not much at all compared to all the cars and trucks on the road.

Amatthew rail Productions always engineers but on some mainline steamers they are on both sides.

Amatthew rail Productions if you mean the actual physical whistle not the whistle cord it is on the firemans side
@nicholasmedovich86914 жыл бұрын
@@MPT_Productions Georgetown loop actually had steam locomotives wearing 2 whistles. Occasionally the whistle chords would have 1 on engineers side and the other fireman’s side. Mostly the whistle chords would have 2 whistle chords on the engineers side.
