If you have Duratech or DuraPlus Class A chimney system from the ceiling up... then this is used to make the transition from single wall to the support box.

Don, would that adapt go up into the support box but on the OUT side of the internal pipe between the box opening and the stainless pipe? NOT slip inside the inner pipe

you do NOT want the collar to go up on the inside of the inner pipe of the class A.... we want to preserve the "drip free" aspect of the system.... if we picture hot gooey creosote dripping down the inside of the chimney we want that mess to stay "inside" as it passes each joint... if we have a joint in the system where the inner pipe is wrong, then the mess can leak at that joint or "drip". I hope that answers your question.
