Like every mantra this one is also beginning with the word Om, which is the beej or main mantra of all the mantras. This is a salutation to Maa Durga as Katyayani the Sixth form of Maa Durga. Her divine omnipresence is felt everywhere in the whole universe. Maa Durga is also worshipped as Kanyakumari. The devotee prays that by whatever name she is worshipped she is also Durga. Goddess Durga is known as Shakti or Devi, the protective mother of the universe, and the epitome of a true womanhood. Durga is referred to as Durgatinashini, meaning “the one who eliminates sufferings.” Like a mother, she intensely loves her children and nurtures, takes care, and protects them and also destroys the enemies. Maa Durga is the truest manifestation of Shakti and the core essence of the whole cosmos at its roots. She is the most powerful deities and protects all that are good and harmonious in the world. By chanting her mantras one can protect oneself from evil and negativity. She blesses her children to overcome all misfortunes and evils.
