How can a train going south terminate at Darlington when there are no termiate platforms on th north side and how would it have stopped at york since its more South

Trains don't have to terminate in bay platforms. They would terminate and then shunt or reverse back in service. And during disruption or engineering works trains terminate on the through platforms at Darlington all the time

Much preferred it when it was the comforting brummie fella who used to do the announcements live. Durham was always one of the few stations where the staff still did all the announcements and ill miss that.
