I only live a few miles away.. The Cathedral is magnificent l go regularly. The castle is usually full of students but you can stay there during the summer..

there's a village in Durham called Tanfield, there, you can find the oldest surviving single span railway bridge and one of the oldest railways in the world, next to it is Beamish museum. Durham is packed with beauty, history and treasures yet a lot of the villages are very poor. The county council is a disgrace.

And why should we bother looking into our heritage or being proud of invention, innovation, or the blood sweat and tears that went into what invariably, allows us the comfort of our daily lives? Fascinating and well researched, with a wealth of information adding to the stunning visuals - really very well done - but I am curious as to the nationality of the lady providing the narration, no criticism I hasten to add, just curious :)
