Durham’s Dangerous Drivers Caught On Camera | Op Snap Highlights

Nobody’s perfect, but sometimes there’s just no excuse.
Like driving your van down a footpath to beat the traffic lights, rear-ending the car in front because you were too busy looking at your phone, or nearly causing a head-on collision because you were overtaking a cyclist.
All of these offences - among others - were captured on camera and submitted to us via Operation Snap, which you can watch in this dashcam compilation.
Op Snap is our online portal that allows road users to submit their footage to our roads policing unit, who will review the videos and take appropriate action where necessary.

Across County Durham and Darlington, we all have the right to use our road networks safely, and that means identifying dangerous drivers and dealing with them accordingly.

Most dangerous drivers nearly causing head on collisions get retraining. Bus lane drivers get fined.

@@canderson1955 Not a massive sum though. Looks like it never goes above £200. So for someone earning minimum wage and working full time, that's a maximum of about 4 days of their life wasted in punishment (1 day spent attending the course, 3 to earn the money to pay for it). Feels a bit on the low side to me, though on the other hand I'd still hate to have to waste even one day of my life attending one of those courses so I guess it's already enough to create a deterrent!

Usually the fee for the training course is the same as the fixed penalty notice, plus loss of a day's earnings.

There were 10 vehicles. Two were BMWs, one was a Merc. So now 3 out of 10 is most? How about most of them were driving Fords or Toyotas? That's at least 4 out of 10.

Remember folks, a lot of people have dash cams nowadays, you never know who is filming so its simply not worth taking risks on the roads these days. Relax, let everyone else get on with it. Be aware and expect the unexpected.

Its Ushaw Moor dude. Probably your best bet is a cheap Ali Express dashcam and powerbank. You could set it up at the roadside and not be identifiable. Send the Vids to Durham Constabulary. Only fines and points on their license is going to deter them from using their phones while driving. You will probably save a few lives as well.

when submitting a piece of dashcam footage do you first have to click on a button to say that you are willing to attend court as a witness? I know that is the case with Northumbria police

@@Real_Steve_Sharpe ive got nothing to hide, but still don't like being filmed as it's an invasion of my privacy, would you be happy to allow the police to walk around your house every day even if you knew you hadnt done anything wrong? No, and I know that is obviously a much more extreme example than dashcam footage, but it is the same principle and hopefully you will understand where im coming from. Im also not pretending to be some hard man like you are making out, but everyone hated the snitch/teacher's pet at school and remembers how annoying they were, and this is basically the adult version!

Double white lines does not mean you can't overtake just that you must not cross them.

There are permitted circumstances for crossing solid white lines between carriageways. Eg passing pedestrians/horses/cyclists however it is, as always the driver’s responsibility to ensure it is safe for all road users to do so.

Let me ask you a question once you learned a skill like driving or baking or anything else. Do you follow it like you were taught too or do you simply go about it your own way. Quite frankly if you lined up a 100 drivers and asked them to explain the principles of Mirror Signal Manoeuvre how many do you think would know what to say and that they follow it every time they make a manoeuvre

The highway code states you can cross unbroken white lines to pass (if safe to do so) cyclists, tractors, milk float's (haven't seen a milk float in year's) and horse drawn vehicles. I would be disputing that one.

If you were local you'd know that bit of road is a merge in turn and traffic spills onto the roundabout. My guess is the camera car started in the right lane and the Skoda came flying off the A1 North and didn't want to wait
