I’ve had my X-Mid 1p for about a year now. For my purposes, it is the best tent I’ve ever had. I camp from canoe and motorcycle. A few times, I used the guy lines on the ends, but they weren’t needed. Enjoy your tent! Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Hello John... 🤣 I was the very same as you on the lead up to recording the video. Couldn't find any info on the ground sheet so happy days. It clips to the same place as the inner 👊😁 greetings fro Ireland.

@@soletrail thanks for let me know where it clips. I contacted. Dan durston about that and he stated in April he's going to make a complete video of setup with ground sheet, inner, and everything else needed from start to finish. Last question for you, how does it fit in the bag with the ground sheet? I was thinking about picking up a sea to summit 10 liter bag to store it in because the size difference from the factory durston bag is very marginal Plus it's waterproof for $17.99 at my local store.

@@johncaban4310 howdie. I packed the ground sheet with it. I will be airing out the tent when I get home anyways. For multi day trips I will pack groundsheet in a separate small stuff sack to be honest I have a Vango Helium 1 and the bag is unreal. It has a side access Which is perfect for easy and quick packing.

I have a similar a Xmid Pro 1p for back country and motorcycle use. As many have noted, brilliant design. Yes it was expensive but it’s been a item of gear I’ve been 100% happy with. Which is rare. Very light, very small, very useable and thoughtful design. Im 6’4 and a one person tent with motorcycle gear does not feel too constricted. Two vestibules, two doors, I can sit up without hitting tent walls, I can change gear inside without issues, etc. The owners take orders or answer questions you might have. I seriously don’t think it can get better. It is an ultra light tent so obviously durability and stability have compromises. That aid I’ve had it in exposed wind storms quite a few times and it stayed standing and no damage. I do try to avoid those situations. The only thing worth noting is for a ultra light tents, they have large footprints which can come into play in small camp spaces.

My spike punctured 2 tents in a row that never got set up beyond my back yard. The wind can slowly loosen the guylines and then the spike pops out and right through the ceiling. Finally , I got an x-mid 1 pro where the poles go in handle up. just got back from an overnighter in the mountains and the tent performed flawlessly.
@1DrBar Жыл бұрын
Though I carry poles most of the time, If I ever use them on my X-Mid Pro 1, I would use them handle up. The shock cord loop on the bottom by the floor, is meant to go around the tip as it rests against the ground and enables much better zipper operation. But I have Durston's brilliantly designed Z-Flick poles and use them with the adjustable part on top, for the same reason. The tent poles prop up my tarp, if two well spaced trees are not handy. I like to eat under a tarp, and often also bring an ultra-light hammock setup along with the tent. At 16 ounces for the tent - why not? :)
@richardillingworth2271 Жыл бұрын
I put some fairly stiff foam in the grommet to stop the pole tip touching the outer tent. Sorted. I’ve found the tent really likes being cinched down nice and tight. All the bungee cord tie downs I’ve removed and replaced with shock cord. That has stopped a lot of excess flapping higher winds. The tent is made that strongly it can take the tension. I love it.

We did have a puncture at the top of our Durston 2p due to the spike of the trekking pole... it happened being careless taking down the tent once last season. Easy solution is to always remove the poles by grabbing them at the bottom and pulling them away before removing any stakes, allowing the tent to gently collapse. We patched the hole easy enough and this continues to be my favorite light weight tent option.

Back in the 80s I had a Vango Force 10 (think it was a one-person tent) ; proofed lightweight outer, polycotton (or maybe just cotton? Inner). It was a great tent for a long time, stood up to a storm that flattened 99% of tents on the campsite I was on & was completely waterproof. Eventually the inner succumbed to mildew because of condensation and almost continuous use. By today's standards it was heavy, with a ridge pole topping one large and one small inner pole, but was easy to pitch in a few minutes. The inner attached inside the outer so could be packed up first/pitched last in bad weather.

The Durston is brilliant gear. The details are so well thought out. I went for the dyneema version mostly due to the increased inner space, but the 16 oz weight is a nice bonus. You are correct that these are the most sought after tents of late. Their packs are similarly well thought out, but it's insane how when they get stock in - how quickly the stock is grabbed up. I got my Kakwa 55 litter an hour after they went on sale and six ours later they were gone. He is also a great guy to deal with. Appreciate your first impressions. What did your dog say about the tent? ;)
@soletrail Жыл бұрын
It's great to hear your positive experience with the Durston gear! Their attention to detail and thoughtful design are indeed key factors that make them so sought after in the outdoor community. The Dyneema version, with its increased inner space and lightweight design, sounds like an excellent choice. I'm sure your observation about their gear selling out quickly is a testament to their popularity and quality. Poor ole Lex is gone. I had to put her down. She was 18 years of age. Hardest day ever. But I have a new furry friend who is enjoying it.

@cavemandancer6 ай бұрын
He is a Black Lap, Australian Shepherd named Clyde. In my current tent I do a tyvek ground sheet with little mitten hooks to the fly to create a little bathtub floor with a 😊Dog sleeping bag. But it has a single vestibule so it kinda kicks my gear out when I go with the dog. I was also thinking of a tarp tent but do not like the extra pole. With my Hammock I love the fact I can store it in my bag and not on the outside. But not good with the pouch. So I trudged my 4 pound "hiking tent" with the dog plus extra. Thanks for the quick reply. I am going to pull the trigger.

I also saw thenMessner video about his concern for pokey poles destroying his x-mid. He uses a sleeve of some kind but I wonder if the plastic tips that go on 5e end of hiking poles would also do the trick. Something I plan to try.

Hi Lisa. Saw that. Tarp pole attachments or something. I will stick to the design for now but it's a great idea. 🙂👏
@gregsantos9392 Жыл бұрын
The tent is designed to use trekking poles tip up. The design is solid. If you pitch the tent taut the chances of the tip coming out of the grommet are slim. There is another reason to pitch handle up if you are in an area with rats and mice: They are attracted to the salt from sweat in the handle strap. They will chew the straps to bits. I contacted Dan and he told me I can get trekking pole handle adapters from Tarptent that allow a handle up pitch. About $4 each. I ordered them and they work pretty good- not quite as good as tip up, but solid. Thanks Dan!
