I have made such adapters from small PET bottles. PET acts as heat shrink, just put the two pipe ends together with the bottle around them and heat it with a hot air gun and the bottle will contract around the pipes. It shrinks to about half of it's original diameter. When shrunk, it's thicker and stronger than the bottle.

I recommend a similar approach for those garden hose repair kits. On a hot summer day you might not need extra heat, but other times the material is too rigid to insert the brass replacement end. Another FYI: The heat gun is also great a removing dents from plastic auto bumpers. Blow on all the edges of the dent, then push from the outside. So that's what me and my heat gun have been up to this month: fixing a hose and a bumper.

I have a bit of advice... leave the tube longer and then heat it up. Cut the tube to length after it is appropriately sized to the mating part. When you go to do the heating, chuck it up in a lathe and spin it around 30-60 RPMs while applying heat to the end. If a lathe isn't available, roll the tube back and forth along the top edge of a table or a bench top with around 2-3 inches of the tube sticking out. The lathe or table top method allows for easier and more consistent heating of the tube. Other than PVC pipe, you can often find softer, transparent vinyl tubing sold by the foot at home improvement centers such as home Depot or Lowe's. That's often more viable as an option compared to pipe simply because it's easier to work with and you don't have to buy an entire length of pipe. Just food for thought!

Sometimes a Smart Water bottle or other of the heavier plastic water bottles will be just a little too big. Heat gun will shrink them to fit. No tape needed to get a snug fit. Worked a contract job in Puerto Rico where a lot of PVC conduit was needed. Everyone knows the pipe is cheap but the fittings are expensive so the locals had a trick for making the various bends. Instead of cutting and using sweeps, etc they would fill the PVC with sand. Then several guys would apply heat guns to soften the PVC and simply bend it to the desired shape, let it cool and dump out the sand that had been used to keep it round. They also had several wooden plugs so instead of buying couplers they would heat and expand the ends. It was artistic craftsmanship in action and I wish I had a video, but being it was 1972, sorry.
