A massive dust storm known as a haboob rolled into Tempe, Arizona, during the season-opening game between Arizona State University and Southern Utah. The storm also caused airport delays and power outages.

Have to say, I lived in Phoenix 28 years, and I did call it a 'haboob' after I found out that Phoenix is one of only two places in the world where it happens- and that it is completely different than "dust storms" that happen everywhere else across the west... Plus, "haboob' is just such a cool word and so fun to say..

Nothing extreme or unusual about them in the Phoenix area at all. They happen a handful of times every summer. They're called dust storms.

this happens literally every year in the southwest. it's not a big deal. there are many things that can survives and infact thrive in the harsh climates of the Sonoran Desert. hope springs eternal

They only happen once or twice a year--if that, and it's not just a dust storm. It's on the same scale as the ones you'd see in the Middle East, hence the term.

It is HUMAN disrupted mother nature that is causing all the climate chaos. It is KNOWN that the dust bowl in Kansas was man made.

@@trumplostlol3007 dust storms occur in dry arid climates. That is Arizona's natural state... The Dust Bowl occurred partly because of ecological damage caused by bad agriculture practices. You have no clue what you are talking about.

@@HaloDude557 Arizona was a RAINFOREST about 3000 years ago. There were native Indians who practice intensive farming using a lot of man made cannel systems to drive river water for irrigating their farmland. They changed climate but deforestation and by causing land degradation. Vegetation changes climate by changing relative humidity and hence precipitation. Read the MOST recent archaeological findings. You need an education, not from those biased textbooks, but from some academic journals. The New World was NOT new. Most native Indians were FARMERS, not hunter gatherers.
