And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. -John 1:5 To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” -Luke 1:79

I feel the same. Last two years - really hard to keep warmness in my heart.

"There are a lot of different ways of looking at ourselves of trying to understand human nature. I think there is some truth to be found from looking from a variety of angles, but I lose interest fairly quickly when a particular view will fail to truly deal with something fundamental. If it glosses by or glazes over the fact that there is a darkness in us, a real god honest darkness. Now by no means do I believe that darkness is all there in us, but it is there, at least if it's not in you it sure is hell in me."

Anyone who says they do not have a darkness in themselves is lying to themselves. When we approach it everyday, its when prayer should come into play

Dustin Kensrue I thank God for blessing me so much with the amazing talent he has given you with songwriting and singing. The way you are able to express yourself musically, vocally and lyrically is truly a gift from God. This song as well as many other songs you and Thrice have written have fueled me to cry out to the Lord Jesus Christ for help and salvation. The darkness in us and all around us shows me now how much I need Lord Jesus Christ and his blood. Thank you Brother for never giving up and continuing to write amazing music! God bless you guys!

Always love Dustin's songs. This is the first that brought me to tears. I seem to be more damaged than most. I've always been cast out and ignored. Every attempt I make to connect is rejected regardless of how hard I try to be kind which has become very difficult after all of my struggles with people. I'm at a point where it seems I'll be alone for as long as I live. I don't know what I hope to gain by saying this, I just feel the need to say it. This song is remarkable. I can't say this song makes me happy but I'm glad I got the chance to hear it.

+Tim Phillips I Know how you feel my friend. I have come to the conclusion that it is better to be alone than with people who will never care or have the ability to truly know who I am. So few of the people that I encounter have the ability to see reality as I do. As so, it is pointless for me to try to connect with someone who can not understand me. Chances are, you are more conscious than most others around you. Slowly but sure they are waking. Have faith my friend, it will be worth the wait.

Tim Phillips first of all. You fell happy because when listening to this song you realize that someone amazing ( Dustin ) feel the same as you. So you re not alone even of you re NEVER alone ( not talking about god shit ) You have to embrace who you are. Whoever and whatever you are. Your look. Size. Rich. Poor. When you gonna be on peace with yourself people will come to you. But its just what I think. ;) and im still working on this myself. Listen to some philosophe on KZbin. They dont have the truth they can make you think ( i like alan watts , nietzche, burkowski ) they dont think the same but you can forge your mind I speak french so.... maybe my english is weak haha

This kind of melodies brings me images of death. A loved one died, something beautiful ended and I'm left behind to face the cruelty of the world and the cost of my mistakes, which seems even more unbearable. I walk out the door and I see happy people all around me, walking their dogs, holding hands with their lover, talking to the phone with friends. There's something dark inside of me: the jealousy I feel whenever I lay eyes upon them. I want to kill the darkness, but the pain is too overwhelming to do so. (It's all just my imagination, nothing of these things has actually happened to me)

What fret is his capo on in this version? I play it with no capo and have seen him play it without a capo live but I like the sound of this version. It sounds almost like it's on the 5th or 6th to me but I'm not to sure.
@calebraden8 жыл бұрын
+Prime Reclaimer The song is in G, so If you capo the 7th fret and play it using the standard tuning "C" shapes it sounds right.

I don't know that he even has a capo on at all in his live version, I played this song just great in normal egbdae with em and cm, etc.
@xaviermerchant92477 жыл бұрын
Prime Reclaimer he doesn't play the song with a capo, if you look at live videos of him playing the song, he's not using a capo
