Hmmm funnily enough I just heard of this book last week. It's huge, from what the (non religious & definitely non conservative) ppl who talked highly of it were saying, and the chances of me reading it are beyond thin, but I generally don't even need to read and hear songs to understand that nothing should be taken for granted and other basic/fundamental things like these. I guess religion etc exist for the ppl who don't like to deviate from the modern world perceptions of life. As a supposedly spoiled person tho, I've been exhausted and have learnt that *nothing comes easily* and that I won't take a breath as long as the world (of humans, but not only🙄 you don't want to talk about god with me, it's too easy to see there's not one or that he/it at least isn't perfect at all - even if that's just the human understanding, the inner voice in many of us doesn't necessarily come from an evil and stupid side, or bitter perspective) remains as corrupt/wretched, and the exploiters are partying and the good ppl crumble (often too soon) from the weight (consequences) of the choices of the selfish and shortsighted (...and cynical, judgemental, shallow, closeminded, fanatical, narcissistic, greedy, power mongering/paranoid fools of all kinds, etc). Hopefully I'll manage to read it at some point tho, if we're/I'm still alive in 5-10 years -_-"

Zak Johns Its not necessarily a religious song. It could be seen as a deeply existentialist piece of work. Dustin has everything, yet still struggles with the feeling of emptiness that so many people struggle with. I am agnostic, but succumb to the same absurdity's that everyone else faces. However i use love for others to fill that void. Life to me is about finding something that gives you passion and meaning. Helping others is mine. Some people find solace in religion, some in gratification of the flesh.
@rachelmaldonado177510 жыл бұрын
For all those asking what is "not enough," he is saying that nothing he can do will ever be enough to make him whole and awake his soul, but only God can do that. He can never do enough, be enough to fill a void in his soul that only the Lord God can fill with grace and salvation. This song is a declaration that nothing can compare to God and nothing will ever be enough to compare to Him.

Smart woman... Praise God.... This is an essay God inspired me to write ( cause all inspiration & the deep desire to create comes from God ) so I encourage you to read it & share it with anyone you think it could help & yeah praise God James (4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.") it would be a sin if I did not try to help you its not a short essay but I guarantee you that its well worth reading madame or sir. Word: Our hearts are the things we need to pray that God guards them for us because we don't know best even when we think "I got this" that's when we should really stop & meditate on who is really controlling us. Our emotions get the better of us more than we'd like to admit. God created us in His image & we like Him have emotions & often times they rule us if we don't notice that that could become a dangerous life pattern (I've seen a lot in my short life & I've seen this pattern way to often. Its so self destructive! ) Look ladies, no man, no matter how descent that dude is can save you or complete you; as only Jesus Christ is able to do that! As a guy I'll be blunt & gentle at the same time: guys will use words in order to get you ladies to do things you'd otherwise never consider doing ( I don't gotta go into that one as your smart ladies so you know of what I speak .) Guys are no more perfect than you ladies so we all have imperfections that God works on if you're abiding in Him & listening to His guidance of the Holy Spirit. He alone is capable of perfecting us as we alone are not capable of sustaining ourselves or making ourselves righteous ( Benjamin Franklin tried to do that & failed as he was trying to be a Christian without Christ which will never work by the way .) Here's a test to give guys ladies & don't be to harsh on guys either as neither sex is perfect but now back to the test: if a guy says your beautiful then don't just accept that compliment blindly (unless he's someone you don't really know & its the first time he saw you) ask him "why do you think I'm beautiful?" Woman are very effected by words but real love is sacrifice thru action as anyone is able to say sweet sounding words but for those words to be true action is required.... Ladies I sincerely say this stop wasting your time painting up your faces & covering those imperfections as those are the very things that make you who you are! Own your unique God created beauty wear that with full confidence & trust me a woman who knows who God says she is is marvelously attractive the world outside of God simply doesn't know that kinda sexiness.... Smile more often, be kind , don't be selfish as true love is unselfishly given not expecting return its given freely from the heart you can't manufacture or buy that kinda love.... Call this God's inspiration cause that's what it is. Ladies & gentleman be careful who you give your hearts too & if you'd do that more often you'd get them broken less often... this is not a good word, its a God word... so Praise God thru Jesus... Every girl really wants a man with the characteristics of Jesus so you ladies search for those things within a man & some of you assign qualities to man that those man really don't have because you really wanna be with that guy because he's so handsome or because he is financially secure.... The truth cuts both ways.... Just because a guy has money doesn't mean he's gonna really cherish you as his queen. Monies not a bad thing but I personally know millionaires who are drunks & totally miserable... Money will never satisfy the needs of your souls only Jesus will.... My prayer for ladies: Oh Heavenly Father show them that only your Son Jesus does complete them & protect & bless them with healthy relationships with men that would really love & respect them intellectually & physically keep the relationships pure so that people aren't giving away literally pieces of their soul's each time they slip up please protect them from that emptiness & those feelings of shame & guilt that always accompany sin do this in & thru your Holy Spirit remolding their minds & hearts towards yours. In Jesus Holy name I pray fully trusting you with what on our own wills is impossible however you are God so nothing is impossible with & in & thru you.... Amen & praise God cause He does what we cannot.... Sincerely A Brother In Christ Jesus Joshua Caleb West

If you are a true fan of Dustin Kensrue and actually pay attention to All of his music since they started you would take note that He was a devote Christian from the get go. Deadbolt and all. You one day decide to look up the individual from thrice who clearly spoke to you yet one could only notice you only received in riddles. Seeing this, you decide to hack at his name, his beliefs, his virtues and for what? to tear down another Christian? do not slander a man's name because he stands for something. Don't you see the irony in your statement? "so sad that one of the greatest, most intelligent and most inspiring musicians of our time is just another sheep believing in fairy tales" You viewed this man as one of the greatest, most intelligent and most inspiring musicians of our time... Your first non biased opinion stated exactly what type of man he is with an open heart... Now the end of the statement naming him another sheep following fairy tales because you took it upon your self deemed The judge to throw all your biased opinions to tear down a great man. This statement not to attack but to defend. Dustin Kensrue has done nothing wrong to you except bring joy to many many people.

how is the passion..my goodness.. - the breaking in his voice...the lament, they desperation, and rawness...yet there is a joy behind this - that there is one that is for us, and His grace is enough. I think i held my breath for the whole song....

The last minute of this song is what really drew me in. Such a powerful, passionate, and emotional singer. Let's all just leave religion at the door for a moment, and appreciate a talented human being.

Jeremy Michael He Loves The Lord Jesus Christ his Saviour and he's using his gift to Glorify and magnify His name...it's not religion he's singing about, it's the relationship he has with the Creator of the universe...thats not religion

Jeremy Michael his song is actually a christian song he saying whatever the world has to offer will not be enough, the only thing that is enough is Jesus Christ

How about we not "leave religion at the door" when this Song is focused within Christianity which contains the Truth of the Nature of Man and the Nature of God. Man is a depraved Sinner lost in darkness and Only God can redeem him and Save him from the Judgement to come

I've been a thrice fan for sooooo long and I don't believe in the same things but I connect SO MUCH to the music and I can connect to the lyrics as well. they are probably my favorite band of all time and will always be. Theres something that I draw from musically that is from the same place. I know that with a couple of bands and people in my life. I think that is the real home from which we come somehow. that music is coming from somewhere and we are just channeling. not that everyone has to have that ability to feel this, I know most don't. I just know we all feel that deep connection to the thrice's music regardless of our beliefs... if we feel it we feel it. I would like to meet other thrice fans like myself though. I really need to meet more people like myself. I'm all alone in every sense of the word.

This song highlights the beauty of what it means to be a Christian. There is ultimate freedom in knowing that we do not have to earn God's love or acceptance. As broken, imperfect beings Christ died for us. We can rest in His grace, His mercy, and His love. Too often I have relied on my own strength, abilities, and knowledge to try and right the course of my life and all too often I have fallen short. It's not enough. I can rely on God's love and mercy to lift me up in my weakness and carry me through trials.

"Exhausting every avenue of sin" gets me every time. I just see Jesus bleeding on that cross for me. When he yells "TO MAKE ME WHOLE" makes me tear up... Nothing in this world will satisfy. But sitting in the darkest hole, the deepest pit, the pain and agony of life if I've got Jesus as my Savior IT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH

Those that actually hit "dislike" must be dead inside....this song is so moving. Despite not being a religious person myself, Dustin has been a favorite lyricist and vocalist of mine for a very very long time. Just gets better and better. The best part about lyrics and music, open to interpretation, no matter who you are, or what you believe. Music. Unites.

"There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of all men." Heard Dustin Kensrue for the first time when I tuned into Mars Hill Global for their Good Friday 2014. It was this song I heard first, and it brought me to my knees. It's a song of pain and repentance, and Solomon himself couldn't have done better. Thank you Dustin for an incredible piece of poetry and music.

The climax of this song gives me chills every time, and the way the video is shot it's perfect. Right as he starts building up the flashes create the most menacing shadows on his face, almost flashing images what he could be but what he can't become. All this manifested in the final line: "Though all would bow to me 'til I could drink my fill of fear and love, it's not enough." Rarely does such a simple video do justice to a powerful song.

Fame, fortune, love... You could have it all, and still not be happy. You could live all your deepest desires and dreams etc... And at the end of the day once it's all been done you are still left with the feeling of emptiness, a void inside etc. God is the only one who can fill that void, is the only one who can make you whole. That is what he is singing about.

This is the definite go-to song whenever I feel overwhelmed and depressed. These emotions I experience usually stem from self-absorbance. In this day and age its hard not to get self-absorbed and carry everything internally. I tend to feel emotionally disturbed from an offense and walk away. When I bring my offense to a worldly perspective I lose joy. This song helps me to see from a different perspective, Jesus' perspective. All I can say after this is thank you, this song heals.

Wow... I just stumbled upon this song that apparently came out years ago, but perfectly expresses what this pandemic has caused so many of us to realize.
