It wasn't stupid, it was sad. He was over and over desperately trying to make an argument for his god and the sacrifice of Jeebus, to the point that he kept giving up on a point and trying to charge headfirst into the next. It was honestly the smartest tactic he could make, too bad that Justin has beaten the "prophetic" versus to unalivement and then continued to pulverize them, over and over again. The only part where it got dumb was when he tried slipping the "No true scottsman fallacy" in on the sly.

Dusty is demonstrably full of pride. * Proverbs 16:18: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” * Once one stops listening to another point of view (let alone what the Bible clearly states), and constantly interrupts, then you’re just playing “Whack-a-mole” with diversions. Dusty also demonstrates what a mind virus Christianity is. So emotionally attached to the story, that they can’t even process basic sentence structure. It’s akin to a friend that’s had too many drinks at the bar. They get angry and belligerent if you suggest that they stop. You are taking away their feel good feelings. This is no different. Damn what you say. Damn what the Bible says, I want to feel good. As frustrating as it is, some do snap out of it. I did.

I remember, as a Christian, reading through the Bible multiple times. But I was applying a New Testament filter as I read. I already believed what was taught to me throughout my life; that the prophecies pointed to Jesus. Therefore, even though I read through the Bible over and over, I never comprehended it. I’m 10m 30s into this, and all caller wants to do is rapid fire all his “lines of evidence” without actually discussing them. And it’s painfully clear as to why this is. On the few points Justin forces him to actually dig into it becomes immediately evident that the caller (1) isn’t acquainted with biblical geography, (2) doesn’t understand natural phenomena that explain apparent chemical and geologic “anomalies”, (3) doesn’t know either the language used to compose inscriptions he references or the dates they were written, and (4) throws around terms like “1st law of thermodynamics” and “static universe” without any understanding of what those terms mean. What an absolute train wreck.

@theastronomer5800 I should have been clear. There is no biblical archaeological evidence for any supernatural events such as Moses and Exodus and the flood and well the list goes on. Sure Jerusalem exists. I know that. But that just relegates the Bible to historical fiction.

These conversations are painful. Hilarious, but also painful. Stupid people merely blindly do what their pastor/priest/etc tell them to do. The SMART ones recognize their own cognitive dissonance so they expend huge amounts of time and energy and intellectual collateral constructing a house of cards they hope will confirm their irrational faith in magic. And it's not so they can convince others, it's them trying to convince THEMSELVES. And the really smart ones get into debates like this because they hope they'll be tested and prevail so they can go away and convince themselves that they were right all along. It's almost sad, except usually it's the smart ones, and they honestly should know better. I feel sad for the low-info sheep that makes up the bulk of the believers who help maintain this dangerous fiction.

I read that detectives book. It’s written for simple people. Uses a deduction argument, says we can’t explain stuff then says the resurrection must have been true cos the other limited options he provided can’t be true. He’s says a conspiracy is unlikely so the resurrection must have happened. Could easily say the resurrection is impossible so it must be a conspiracy.

@SaintD382 the use of literally in this way is WAY before even the oldest Millenials. And it's used ironically to convey hyperbole. So the "correct" use of the word aids in communicating the ridiculousness of the claim. But I'm sure everyone is aware of that since it's a common and ubiquitous colloquial usage. Cuz that's how language works.

Dusty seems like a decent person. Unfortunately, the bible and those that teach it have fucked up his critical thinking skills. He cannot focus on a single thing for more than 20 seconds, sometimes less. It's quite astounding...and sad to see. People in cults don't ever know they're in a cult until after they've gotten away from the cult. Christianity is merely a socially accepted cult. I hope Dusty looks back on this and sees just how chaotic his mind is under the influence of this religion.
