We agree with you 100%, Roxy! It is a super tip indeed to keep your dusty miller fabulous and fresh. It's such a delightful foliage with its soft, brushed velvet texture, and we love to use it whenever we can. This Tulip Tuesday Tip insures that it will be gorgeous when you need it to be. Thank you for taking time to see it and for sharing your tulips too. We look forward to seeing you again tomorrow and hope you will enjoy the show with Teacher Michelle. All the best to you and please have a superb first week of September!

Im a professional florist, the ice water kind of shocks and seals the stems! I grown dustymiller in my own garden in ohio and it looks great in the garden, but when you cut it, it kind of wilts, so i use the same technique as un this video! I also have found that if im going to use it for an arrangement in my home or take to my flowershop where i work, i cut it the day before, and let it hydrate in water a good almost 24 hours before! Another trick is, just buy the silk version! I do this at home, i mixed the silk dusty miller with fresh flowers, then you dont have to worry about it wilting down! Silk flowers today are so realistic, you cant really tell the difference between fresh flowers

Thank you for this fabulous feedback and for these splendid suggestions, Tyler! We truly appreciate hearing how you do it as there is always something new to learn and a better/faster/more efficient way to do things. We love the idea of hydrating a full 24 hours when possible and using silk pieces as well. You are right about silk flowers and foliage these days - they are excellent quality and slipping a few in with fresh is a great way to do. We appreciate you taking the time to watch our Tulip Tuesday Tip and we hope you will visit us again soon. Best wishes to you and hope you have a marvelous weekend!

Fun fact: I was an Elementary school librarian and had a student named Dustyi Miller

This is one of the best posts we have ever received, Vol Vacations! We love the idea of a student named Dusty Miller and the student would probably enjoy knowing that there is a foliage by the same name. Thank you for sharing that fun fact with us and for stopping by to watch our Tulip Tuesday Tip. We hope you are having a lovely week and we wish you the very best with everything you are doing!

Good tip to have it in nice condition

We agree with you, Emilia Teresa! It is a good tip to insure that your dusty miller is always as beautiful as it can be. It's such a lovely foliage to use in arrangements and in bouquets, but it does have a tendency to wilt if it isn't processed correctly. This will insure that it is always at its best, which is so important. Thank you very much for visiting with us and for saying hello. We hope you are doing well these days and we wish you the very best with your floral projects and classes. Please take care and have a lovely week!

Why the ice-cold water?
@FlowerSchool3 ай бұрын
That's a good question, Garven! Dusty miller is definitely a thirsty foliage and has a tendency to wilt if not processed correctly. Through our experiments with it and our conversations with floral wholesalers and other florists, we have found that dusty miller likes cold water for better hydration. Thank you very much for taking the time to watch our latest Tulip Tuesday Tip. We hope you will stop by again soon, and we wish you the very best until we see you again!

I would’ve thought ice cold water would move to slowly upwards and it would go limp?

It's always interesting to see how flowers and foliage respond to water temperatures, Olivia! Some flowers like dahlias like very hot water while others prefer room temperature or cold water. Dusty miller is a very thirsty foliage so the combination of Quick Dip (which is a rapid hydrator) and then ice cold water really helps the cut foliage drink enough water to be fresh and beautiful for your arrangements. We have tested this ourselves, but we always suggest that you try it as well to see what the results are. Thank you for watching our Tulip Tuesday Tip and hopefully we'll see you again soon. Best wishes to you!
