So Dustin genuinely doesn't like doing interviews. This was tough for him. I'm not a Richmond fan but if you don't admire how good this man is at the game, then you need help. I think I enjoyed mostly listening to his almost ethereal overview of what the game is to him & his child-like enjoyment each time he goes out to play. There is an intensity there that is quite scary but it's tempered by a warmth I never expected. Some people are shy because underneath they're actually a-holes & they usually know they are. I don't believe this is true of Dustin. I get the impression he is genuinely shy but he'll put up with morons for as long as he has to then walk away at his first opportunity. There is an inherent kindness in the way he pervades Nick's interview with his intensity & it's obviously challenging for Nick. I dare say he's probably a bit moody at times but in this interview it was warmth despite not wanting to be there. Incredibly impressed with his insight into who he is & a bit surprised as well. No, I didn't expect that at all. Dustin above all knows who he is.

@MUFC Congrats on having the most irrelevant post on this thread. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it is good or important. McDonald's, daytime tv, cigarettes and talking smack are all pretty popular too.... Anyway soccer is an overated sport with all its nil-all and 1-nil results not to mention diving for frees.....boring
@albertbarbieri87063 жыл бұрын
In fact not just boring but embarrassing. Supposed athletes screaming and crying on the ground as if their leg was broken then up again in 5 min running around. And they call it "the beautiful game"....I get annoyed at someone in AFL just flopping for a free let alone turning on waterworks....ugly, shameful stuff

Well here it goes... I was born into a Carlton clan, my Poppa played for them. So from birth Ive not been a big fan of Richmond, ha. But I friggen love this bloke! What a humble fairdinkum young man. And how many footy players would do an interview and show such emotion for the love of his old man. There needs too be more kids like this, hopefully all the young fans not just Tigers fans but footy fans can see this bloke and how he carries himself on and off the field. I have a mate whos a Tigers diehard and took his young son and daughter too a family day. (I think that’s what it’s called?) and Dustin Martin was right there among the kids, he even sat on the ground with them and totally inspired my mates young daughter to follow her dream to be a “girl Dusty”.. now, he didn’t have to do that, and spend time with young fans like that. But I hear he’s like that all the time, it’s not put on, that’s him. I really hope for your club and all your mad fans that Dustin gets the chance to be a one club player for the rest of his career, that would be special and he seems like a staunch loyal footy player. I recon he might? Don’t get me wrong, Carlton and probably every team in AFL would gladly have him. But I really hope the Tigers look after him and his family. I just saw today that he’s taken some time off to grieve for his old man. I really hope he gets the time he needs and that he’s got the support around him. Well I never thought I’d comment on a Richmond KZbin page haha. This young bloke got me inspired too! Cheers from a Staunch Blues fan but also a huge Dusty fan. And he’s really only hitting his straps, I don’t think he’s even got to his peak yet. Bloody Lucky Richmond again haha.

The thing I love about AFL accolades is that they reward being the Fairest and the Best on ground. If you end up at the Tribunal, you are out of contention. Having players that are this good, yet show teamwork, leadership, camaraderie and good sportsmanship is a wonderful thing. Fancy the awards coming your way being voted on by the referees and the commentators and the opposition players - they are true awards for deserving greats of the game. Nick was also one of them! Good on you Dusty, his award speeches are always too short, coz he is genuinely humbled by the attention.

It was very disheartening to hear them both speak about Dustins father and how how was looking forward to seeing his father watch him in the near future play in Australia..and reflecting on what has happened in the past two years. His past few years have dropped he has also had some injuries however I can fully understand what loosing a parent can do to someone in so many ways. Dustin is a very emotional person and his dad was everything to him anc its left a huge void one that I believe has caused him lots of self reflection. Sometimes that can sturr up things that hold someone back. I really believe Richmond especially dimma let the side down all his talk about Richmond being a family Club and what it meant to the Players. Then he leaves his wife and children for a women that worked at the club. Family man my backside.😢

Since many people keep coming back to Carey, Ablett, Mathews etc... I just wanted to give a shout out to Mick Conlan (Fitzroy for the younger generation). Although not in the same freak zone as these guys, it's worth pointing out that he had the build and professionalism of a FULL TIME FOOTBALLER when the game was virtually a part time sport. He would have slotted into ANY side today. Built like a brick shithouse he would run through opposition with contempt. Don't forget the "tv aspect" of the time made everyone look tall and skinny and he still presented like a bull. Would have loved to have seen Lethal and Mick collide for a footy.....or maybe not - could have been tragic

Dusty is a great footballer, but how people can call him the best player they have ever seen baffles me. There have been so many champion players throughout the history of the game and the fact that people disregard them just to name dusty as the best player of all time is an insult. Wayne carey, gary ablett snr and leigh matthews just to name a few, keep in mind none of them won a brownlow, stats don’t determine every outcome.

True, a lot of people only focus on the result (which is a really toxic mindset), but in reality, numbers are just numbers, don’t mean anything, if the score was say 79 - 77, the result says the loser was almost good enough but not quite, when in reality the losing team could have not taken certain chances and had missed opportunities, and had they taken them they would have won by 4 goals.

The recency bias by nick is ridiculous, “the best player the game has ever seen”. Look don’t get me wrong dusty is a freak and a once in a lifetime player, but I can’t even put him in the top 10 just because he has 3 norm smiths. The irony of bitching about "recency bias" and "these teens" who "don't know about the history of the game" then claiming Ablett Jnr was better than Martin is very amusing stuff. The guy was not even the best player named Gary in his own immediate family. Then to carry on about disrespect then actually say "just because he has 3 Norm Smiths" really drives the stupidity home.
