Dusty is the greatest finals player of all time. Fyfe has the most Brownlow votes per game in AFL history. One is a genuine consistent full season beast (hasn't had much chance in finals - but he was BOG in a prelim with a broken leg), whereas the other has had the chance to win the big one. Different opportunities to show up.

Regular season Fyfe, finals time Dusty Plenty to be said about the players who surround both but I’m probably picking Dusty because he still gives you plenty during a regular season game but you can bank on him just flicking the switch when the chips are down and destroying the best teams in the competition just because it’s crunch time

I reckon they would get along as mates outside of footy. Both are relatively quiet and enjoy their low key stuff and both are country boys. They both seem to be the same level of chilled out too. So very similar in some ways, but dusty is more of a goal shark and fyfe is a high flyer. Dusty ducks and weaves his way out of impossible packs, and fyfey just mows through them

I'm a Freo fan but I'd have to say Dusty, but it's damn close. Then again put Fyfe in Richmond and he could just be off the scale. Fyfe kills it one on one, but Dusty is the king with ball in hand.

They’re very hard to compare because they’re so close, given they were taken in the same draft and they’re both mids who swing forward they’re comparable, Fyfe is more consistent during the regular season so you can argue if he had the same team around him that he’d be better but nobody flicks the switch when it matters like Dusty, when the chips are down you’re taking Dusty to just romp in the result

Dusty's more damaging on the scoreboard, but then again Fyfe doesn't have the luxury of playing forward often because he has to do all the work in the midfield, even more so now since Neale and Brad Hill are gone. I reckon if Fyfe played for a club as good as Richmond he'd have a longer career because he'd have more help and he'd be able to play significant minutes forward, something that'll never happen at Freo.

@@kyryan5399 there’s plenty to be said about the players around him but nobody touches Dusty when it comes to big games, if we’re talking regular season you probably take Fyfe for consistency (hence 2 brownlows) but when it’s time to turn it on and make top 8 sides look like training cones you’re taking Dusty every day of the week 1 Brownlow 3 premierships, 3 norm smiths and 3 Gary Ayers awards tell you all you need to know, no discredit to Nat Fyfe he’s a gun but if you’re not taking Dusty you’re probably not winning premierships

Might just be the greatest big time or finals player of all time. His finals performances are untouchable. 10 BOG in his past 12 finals. Not just votes, according to champion data as well.

Swap them to the others team. Fyfe is still going to excel regardless at Richmond while Dusty is going to struggle with the deadwood at freo. Dustys great and amplifies the teammates around him but fyfe is the all round better player

Fyfe because: 2 brownlows, 2 Leigh Matthews trophy’s, has been an elite player for 2 - 3 years longer, and defeats Martin in every single major statistic and average other than goal kicking, better ball winner, marker, tackler etc. Not to mention how bad the comparison is because of the different playing styles. Besides Dangerfield is more accomplished as an individual player than Dusty anyway.

THE BIG DAWG Judging players by their premierships is a moronic way of assessing them as players. Gary Ablett Sr, Tony Lockett and Bob Stilton amongst countless others failed to win a premiership, and all will agree they are some of the GOATs. As for the 2 norm smiths, Dusty deserved only 1 of them (2019), besides norm smiths are in reality BOG for a single game, Jason Johaneison won one for gods sake. Yes it is a great award but 3 norm smiths are not worth one Brownlow in my opinion
