I adore this song. Her heartfelt, and very real performance transcends the fact that it was poorly mastered and the audio quality sounds like a demo

I think this song is beautiful. I have no problem with her vocals. Dusty's music changed with the times (like all great Pop singers) and this has 1985 written all over it. I think it's sad and lovely.

Dusty sings Donna..two of the greatest voices of the 20th Century. Also Donna was a brillant songwriter. Its hard to believe Donna's original wasn't on an album. Now it is on 1982's Donna Summer expanded edition cd.

You can hear at towards the end she was struggling with singing the song as had some sort of illness with her vocal cords during this. She got through it like the trooper she was. Folks don't realized, there's no business like show business. You can be sick as a dog and still have to get out there and deliver. She served it up well despite conditions.

Lori Romano I read that dusty had a bad case of laryngitis when she recorded it but they pushed it through against her wishes...heard the same thing happened when she did something in your eyes with Richard carpenter

This is lip synced so if she had a problem with her vocal cords it was during the recording of the record, which is entirely possible. I've read that the recording of this song did not go well. As much of a Dusty fan as I am, I have to admit it's not her finest hour vocally.

I find her vocals on this song amazing, especially at the end of it: raw, rough and intense. I believe they were sung like that on purpose, not because of illness. It's a very "black" and soul oriented way of singing to me.

AMAZING DUSTY IS FANTÁSTIC TO SEE HER SINGING FROM 1960 TILL 80'S, FOREVER FOREVER DUSTY 😍😍😍😍

Camera guy needed to keep the camera on dusty instead of set and dudes running around in the background. Also, he didn't even frame her in the middle of the screen. First day on the job? Lordy. Dusty did a good job despite some kind of eye irritation in the beginning. Bless her heart. OH BABY BABY BABY. She's the greatest.

She's definitely the greatest. Maybe the camera guy had never heard Dusty before and was distracted by her phenomenal voice and beauty.
@tednorton51506 жыл бұрын
she had laryngitis and the recording was mastered without her final approval. but like latter day Billie Holiday (who in my opinion sang a lot WORSE than this) Dusty's experience and phrasing make ANY performance of hers more interesting than half the shit that gets recorded and made into hits. This woman had a GIFT that was much deeper than people realize and much more expressive than just musical.
@tednorton51506 жыл бұрын
singing was her ONLY career option . every time she took the stage she was literally singing for her life. Without being able to entertain she was , as legend proves, somewhat lost.

I love this song...yes, her vocals aren't the best towards the end but that is what makes the song so real to me. It is autotuned and altered to a point that it doesn't sound like Dusty...this is Dusty in the raw. You can hear/feel the pain in her voice. This was a hard time for Springfield, I believe this was during her horrible Hippodome (sp?) era with Stringfellow? I heard that she was not ready to sing and release this song because she had an infection of some sort affecting her voice but they pushed for it. Still a beautiful song, though!

+tdk1004 What? It's her voice throughout and, particularly toward the end which gives the song its roar power and makes it brilliantly and sincerely agonising.
@tdk10049 жыл бұрын
I think I meant that it isn't autotuned, but I agree with you. It's a beautiful song and it's truly Dusty. We have to remember this was after/during her addiction to alcohol and drugs, which changed her vocals. I read she had a terrible case of laryngitis when recording this as well, so that also added to the agonizing pain of singing. However, it's a beautiful song, beautiful voice and a beautiful woman.

I would have liked Dusy to have come back with an LP collaboration with Burt Bacharach and Hal David if possible. Hopefully they could have worked with her still by that time as particular and demanding as she became. I believe she would have had such respect for them that it would have kept her in check to some extent. I think the result of something like that would have brought her in with a bang and she could have moved on from there. Hindsight is 20/20 however that seems like a good idea to me. After all she was coming back from some rough years.
