What a great songwriter Tom Springfield

Dusty was 1 in a trillion, her voice was so powerful, yet soft when needed.

Alex Smith I never knew Dusty was in a group. I just read how she did 9 or 10 solo songs that went nowhere. Then she recorded I ONLY WANT TO BE WITH YOU. When you were in America, you came to know so many new groups and solo performers in the British Invasion. It was great.

I had heard the springfields sing silver threads and golden needles but I never put 2 and 2 together until years later when I realized it was DUSTY Springfield!

What are you talking about? This was a live performance! No lip sync what-so-ever! And great job by the way! I find it so amazing that some people can't tell the difference between a live performance and a lip sync. These songs were rehearsed and played live by Dusty with her two sidekicks on this studio set.

How coy and timid she was in those days. Dear Dusty, the greatest.

perfect! I'm so sad she's gone but she left a wonderful legacy.

This lineup was after Tim Field had left the group. On the left is Mike Hurst, who later went on to produce some of Cat Stevens' early hits like "Matthew and Son" and yes IMO this is a LIVE rendition of this song. Other versions on YuTube had them lip synching, which was what everybody did on TV in those days. And, yes, I lusted after Tom's 12 string guitar, which was what made me ask Dusty Springfield to introduce me to him when The Seekers did a Sunday concert with her in Blackpool in 1964.

Sound stage production was not unheard of, also boom mics. I would love to know the minutiae of how these early programs were done. Her vocals are impeccable and superior to anything recorded of the era. The Springfields and Dusty were groundbreaking.

Fantastic , you met them! The Seekers , we love you folks too. Island of Dreams I love this song, and I was always amazed at the way they sang it, and yes I think they have done this version live. I asked my son to look at it and see how professional and just the massive talent and harmony , there are a couple of versions on KZbin that may be lip synced, my son does some music production and I thought he'd be really interested in where it all came from and perhaps a little bit of what is missed these days, and the gigantic audience that is still around. He was impressed , how couldn't you be , straight up on a stage with a microphone and just your voices. WOW. Any wonder millions of people are on youtube to hear some good things. Obviously there is good music around now , but the amount of really good stuff has dropped off and fits into only one bucket full UNFORTUNATELY. One day MUSIC will return . With story and feeling . Dance beat is fine , but when it becomes continues and all sounds the same , well hurry up next generation of great talent. Ears can't handle the noise want music!!!!

I often wonder how musical history would have changed if Dusty hadn't gone solo and the first 3 hits of The Seekers (written by Tom Springfield) had been recorded by The Springfields as they probably would have.Just a thought!

well i think its great to look at its lip synct and the added texture is almost startlingly out of place but its so great to look at it doesnt matter

Anyone who thinks this is mimed (lip synched) is not insulting but actually complimenting as in a comment below. Anyone who knows the business knows this was recorded live.

+Mike Hudson I'm glad someone brought this up. There is another clip of Island of Dreams, I told my son who is in the music business to look it up. And see the brilliance of the harmonies and these three brilliant artists. YES THIS IS LIVE , THIS IS SINGERS, SINGERS SINGING , NO TRICKS, JUST STRAIGHT BRILLIANT VOICES TONS AND TONS OF REHEARSAL, . Dusty is amazing loved her , this is one of the best sweetest songs ever . EVER! My son will have seen this one and knows exactly what we are talking about. The Springfields were simply the best!

Why oh why didn't Dusty ever do a country album?
@katierear8113 Жыл бұрын
If she would have it would have been a monumental moment! She sang a song on her final album that was considered country. If they would have promoted that song it would have went to #1 without a doubt. The name of the song is"I CAN'T HELP THE WAY THAT I DON'T FEEL" It's outstanding!
